<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tarja Halonen</span> President of Finland from 2000 to 2012

Tarja Kaarina Halonen is a Finnish politician who served as the 11th president of Finland, and the first woman to hold the position, from 2000 to 2012. She first rose to prominence as a lawyer with the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK), and as the Prime Minister's parliamentary secretary (1974–1975) and a member of the City Council of Helsinki (1977–1996). Halonen was a Social Democratic Party member of parliament from 1979 until her election to the presidency in 2000. She also served as a minister at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health from 1987 to 1990, as Minister of Justice from 1990 to 1991, and as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 2000.

Martti Oiva Kalevi Ahtisaari was a Finnish politician, the 10th president of Finland, from 1994 to 2000, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and a United Nations diplomat and mediator noted for his international peace work.

Suuret suomalaiset was a 2004 television show broadcast in Finland by Yle, which determined the 100 greatest Finns of all time according to the opinions of its viewers. The viewers were able to vote during a programme which lasted from October to December 2004. The show was a Finnish spin-off of the BBC's programme Great Britons.

Mäntyniemi is one of the three official residences of the President of Finland, besides the Presidential Palace and the summer residence Kultaranta. Mäntyniemi was finished in 1993. Four Finnish presidents have lived there: Mauno Koivisto, Martti Ahtisaari, Tarja Halonen, and the incumbent Sauli Niinistö.

Tom Kuchka was an American bluegrass musician who lived in Finland since the late 1960s. A New York jazz musician, he discovered bluegrass after moving to Finland and introduced this music genre to a large number of Finnish musicians and enthusiasts at his weekly Toimela Bluegrass Workshop in Helsinki which he ran for over thirty years. He was also a well-known jazz instructor.

Kalle Rovanperä is a Finnish professional rally driver who competes in the World Rally Championship (WRC) for Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, alongside co-driver Jonne Halttunen. He is the double reigning World Champion. As the son of former WRC driver Harri Rovanperä, he garnered international attention by starting rallying at an exceptionally young age.

Eeva Irmeli Ahtisaari is a Finnish teacher and historian who was the First Lady of Finland from 1994 to 2000. She was married to the late 10th President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari. Their son is the musician Marko Ahtisaari.
