Gaël Sébastien Monfils is a French professional tennis player. He has been ranked as high as world No. 6 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), which he achieved in November 2016. His career highlights include reaching two major semifinals at the 2008 French Open and 2016 US Open, and three ATP Masters 1000 finals – two at the Paris Masters in 2009 and 2010, and the other at the 2016 Monte-Carlo Masters. Monfils was named the ATP Newcomer of the Year in 2005. He has won eleven ATP Tour singles titles and been runner-up twenty-two times, and has reached at least one ATP Tour singles final every year since 2005.

Juan Martín del Potro defeated the five-time defending champion Roger Federer in the final, 3–6, 7–6(7–5), 4–6, 7–6(7–4), 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2009 US Open. He became the first Argentine man to win the title since Guillermo Vilas in 1977, and the first to win a major since Gastón Gaudio in the 2004 French Open. This was del Potro's only major title, although he would reach a second final in 2018. This was also the first US Open final since 1999 to go to five sets.

Andy Murray defeated Juan Martín del Potro in the final, 6–7(4–7), 7–6(7–3), 6–1 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2009 Canadian Open.

Novak Djokovic defeated Andy Murray in the final, 6–4, 6–2, 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2011 Australian Open. It was his second Australian Open title and second major title overall.

The 2011 International German Open was the 105th edition of the International German Open, a men's tennis tournament held that year in Hamburg, Germany. Part of the ATP World Tour 500 series of the 2011 ATP World Tour, the games would last from 18 July through 24 July 2011. Andrey Golubev was the defending champion, but lost to Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round.

Roger Federer was the defending champion, but was forced to withdraw from the tournament before the semifinals because of a back injury. Following Federer's withdrawal, Stefan Edberg and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga played a one set exhibition match to make up the evening session.

Four-time defending champion Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 3–6, 7–5, 6–2, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2014 French Open. It was his record-extending ninth French Open title and his 14th major title overall, tying Pete Sampras in second place for the most men's singles major titles in history. Nadal became the first man to win nine titles at the same major and the first man to win the French Open five consecutive times.

Stan Wawrinka defeated Novak Djokovic in the final, 4–6, 6–4, 6–3, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2015 French Open. It was Wawrinka's second major title. As he did when he won the 2014 Australian Open, Wawrinka defeated the world No. 1 and world No. 2 en route to the title. Djokovic was attempting to complete the career Grand Slam.

Novak Djokovic defeated Tomáš Berdych in the final, 7–5, 4–6, 6–3 to win the singles tennis title at the 2015 Monte-Carlo Masters. It was his second Monte-Carlo Masters title, and he became the first man to win the first three ATP Tour Masters 1000 titles of the season.

The United States Open Tennis Championships is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually at Flushing Meadows, starting on the last Monday in August and lasting for two weeks. The tournament consists of five main championship events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, with additional tournaments for seniors, juniors, and wheelchair players.

The 2019 OEC Kaohsiung-Singles was a men's tennis tournament held from September 16 to September 22, 2019, at Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Gaël Monfils was the defending champion but chose not to defend his title.

This was the first edition of the tournament, primarily created due to the one-week delay of the 2021 French Open.
