Senate elections were held in Kazakhstan on 19 August 2005. [1] All 16 seats representing the regions of Kazakhstan were elected by the local legislative bodies (maslihats). 3155 of the 3287 illegible electorates voted in the election. [2]

Electoral system

The members of the Senate of Kazakhstan are nonpartisan and are indirectly elected by the local legislative bodies Maslihats every six years. Each region and cities of Almaty and Astana are represented by two senators while 7 senators are appointed by the President of Kazakhstan. [3]

The Almaty City Mäslihat is a local unicameral legislative branch in the city of Almaty. It is led by the current Secretary, Stanislav Kankurov (Amanat).

Ömirbek Bäigeldi is a retired Kazakh politician who was a member of the Senate of Kazakhstan where he served as the Chair from 30 January 1996 to 29 November 1999 and then its Deputy Chair from 1 December 1999 to 1 December 2005. Prior to that, Baigeldi was the Head of the Jambyl Region from 1992 to 1995.

Senate elections were held in Kazakhstan on 12 August 2020. All 17 of the 49 seats were up for reelection including the newly created represented seat from the city of Shymkent. 2889 out of total 3069 members of the Mäslihats cast their vote for a Senator representing each region and three municipal cities.

Senate elections were held in Kazakhstan on 8 October 2002. All the 16 represented seats in the Senate were elected by 3304 out of 3153 mäslihat members.

The Astana City Mäslihat is a unicameral legislature of Kazakhstan’s capital city of Astana. The councillors of the City Mäslihat are elected concurrently with the MP's of the Mazhilis. The City Mäslihat councillors perform their duties by approving plans, economic and social programs for the city's development.

Local elections were held in Kazakhstan on 10 January 2021 to elect in total of all 3,246 members of the 214 mäslihats (local assemblies) which included 489 regional members and 2,757 municipal members. This is the first election to take place under party-list proportional representation system that was enacted in 2018, giving political parties a role in local races and it coincided with the 2021 legislative elections.

The Jambyl Regional Mäslihat is a unicameral local legislature of the Jambyl Region. Convening in Taraz, the Mäslihat consists of 36 members and three parties of which are the Nur Otan (NO), Ak Zhol Democratic Party (AJ), and Auyl People's Democratic Patriotic Party (AUYL) in which the NO controls the supermajority of 30 seats. The Secretary of the Mäslihat is currently Mahmetğali Sarybekov (NO).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Karaganda Regional Mäslihat</span>

The Karaganda Regional Mäslihat is a unicameral legislative branch of the Karaganda Region formed in 1993 where it convenes in Karaganda. As a decision-making body, the Mäslihat adopts resolutions and measures for the region and elects its own Secretary of which is Serık Öteşov. The Mäslihat has 38 members, who since 2021 have been elected through party-list proportional representation. Currently, the legislature is allocated among four parties with the Nur Otan (NO) controlling the majority of 29 seats followed by Ak Zhol Democratic Party (AJ), Auyl People's Democratic Patriotic Party (AUYL), and People's Party of Kazakhstan (QHP) with each having three mandates to be parliamentary opposition to NO's majority.

The Kostanay Regional Mäslihat is a unicameral legislative body of the Kostanay Region which was formed in 1993.

Municipal elections were held in Kazakhstan where 730 äkıms whose four-year terms expired were reelected for the first time directly by the population on 25 July 2021 following an introduction of new law by the Parliament, which allowed for direct elections for äkıms of cities with district importance, villages, and the townships of rural districts. From there, the ruling Nur Otan party won majority of 627 municipal races with most of its candidates being incumbents who occupied the äkım positions prior, followed by the Auyl People's Democratic Patriotic Party, Adal, Ak Zhol Democratic Party, People's Party of Kazakhstan, and the Nationwide Social Democratic Party where it secured local race victory in West Kazakhstan Region.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">1994 Kazakh local elections</span>

Local elections were held in Kazakhstan on 7 March 1994 for the first time to elect 5,935 members of the mäslihats (local assemblies). The mäslihat elections coincided with the legislative elections and the voter turnout was reported to be 73.52%.

The 2022 Tomsk Oblast gubernatorial election took place on 10–11 September 2022, on common election day. Acting Governor Vladimir Mazur was elected to a full term.
