The 2006 FIBA Asia Champions Cup was the 17th staging of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, the basketball club tournament of FIBA Asia. The tournament was held in Kuwait City, Kuwait from May 31 to June 8, 2006.
According to the FIBA Asia rules, each zone had one place, and the hosts (Kuwait) and Asian champion (Qatar) were automatically qualified. The other three places are allocated to the zones according to performance in the 2005 FIBA Asia Champions Cup.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup, also known as the FIBA World Cup of Basketball or simply the FIBA World Cup, between 1950 and 2010 known as the FIBA World Championship, is an international basketball competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the sport's global governing body. It is considered the flagship event of FIBA.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification is the process that a national basketball team goes through to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup finals. The tournament was supposed to be held in Kuwait on June 5–13, 2014, but FIBA Asia, through a communique to the National Federations representing the qualified teams, had announced that the tournament will be rescheduled after the 2014 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship for Women sometime in the third-fourth week of October, after they mentioned that they require their top players to be available for the National Team’s preparations for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2014 Asian Games.

The tournament took place in Chenzhou, China from 8 October to 16 October, 2016. The venue of the tournament was Chenzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium. This was the return of the tournament after a two-year hiatus since the 2013 edition.
