  1. "Ring Ding Dong"

2009, Year of Us is the third extended play (EP) by South Korean boy group Shinee. It consists of six tracks and it incorporates alternative rock and hip-hop music genres. The digital version of the album was released on October 19, 2009, with a physical release on October 22. The title track, "Ring Ding Dong", was released on October 14, 2009, through various music sites.

Songs

The EP contains six songs, including the title track "Ring Ding Dong", which is an afro-electro song that combines the beat of African congo drums with the sound of an electro synthesizer. It is the work of Yoo Young-jin. [1] The lyrics of the song describe the situation of unconsciously falling in love with someone. The phrase "ring ding dong", which is repeated numerous times throughout the song, is a cartoon-like expression for a bell ringing in someone's head at the very moment of falling in love. [2] In an interview with Big Communications representative Jung Young-jin, it was revealed that because of its catchy hooks and repetitive nature, "Ring Ding Dong" was named the number one banned song before college entrance exams in South Korea. [3] In addition, the album contains songs of various genres such as "JoJo", a eurodance song composed by Kenzie, and the swingbeat song "Shinee Girl". [2] The EP also features Onew's first solo song, "The Name I Loved", a ballad song based on alternative rock featuring veteran singer Kim Yeon-woo. [4] Luna of f(x) also makes an appearance on the hip-hop song "Get Down" with Key and Minho. [5] [6]

Release and reception

2009, Year of Us was Shinee's first release after a five month long absence from the K-pop scene. It was their third EP, with their last being Romeo in May 2009, and was supposed to show a new style for the group as well as the vocal talent of the members. [7] The digital version of the EP was released on October 19, 2009, [8] [9] with a physical release on October 22. [10] Before its release the album recorded 60,000 pre-orders. [11]

The lead single, "Ring Ding Dong", was released digitally on October 14 [12] and charted atop of several Korean music charts and gained popularity all over Asia. [13] [14] It was written by Yoo Young-jin. The group had their debut performance of the song on October 16, on KBS' Music Bank . [2] Misha Gabriel, who previously worked on the group's song "Amigo" in 2008, [15] also choreographed "Ring Ding Dong". [16] The music video was shot in early October on a set in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, and was directed by Cho Soo-hyun. [17] "JoJo" was promoted alongside "Ring Ding Dong" as the second promotional track from the album. [18] [19]

The EP was released in Japan on January 20, 2010, with an alternative cover and a bonus DVD. [20] [21] The release peaked at number 40 on the weekly Oricon chart, charting for three weeks. [22]

An electronic song, "Lucifer" was composed and arranged by Yoo Young-jin, Ryan S. Jhun, Adam Kapit and Bebe Rexha, with lyrics penned by Yoo. The song was commercially successful, peaking at number two on the Gaon Digital Chart and selling over one million downloads in South Korea in 2010.

Aside from group activities, he debuted as an actor in November 2010 in KBS2's drama special Pianist. He has since landed roles in television series such as Salamander Guru and The Shadows (2012), To the Beautiful You (2012), Medical Top Team (2013), My First Time (2015), and Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016). He made his feature film debut in 2016 with Canola. As a soloist, he has released the digital singles "I'm Home" (2019) and "Heartbreak" (2021). He released his debut solo EP Chase in 2022.

He debuted as a member of the boy band Shinee in May 2008 and the supergroup SuperM in 2019, both under SM Entertainment, and has subsequently been labeled by media outlets as the "Idol's Idol" due to the large number of idols citing him as an inspiration. As an actor, Taemin's first role was as Junsu in the 2009 MBC comedy Tae-Hee, Hye-Kyo, Ji-Hyun.

Replay is the debut EP of South Korean boy group Shinee, released on May 22, 2008 through their label SM Entertainment. The lead single, "Replay", was created by producer Yoo Young-jin with a contemporary, sophisticated R&B feel and rhythm. The EP consists of five tracks and debuted at number 10 on the MIAK charts, peaking at number eight. The lead single became a hit, especially with the adult female demographic, because of its line, "Noona, you’re so pretty". Rino Nakasone worked on the choreography for the title song. The Korean music video included f(x)'s Victoria as the female lead, while the song's Japanese music video featured Yoona of Girls' Generation.

<i>Romeo</i> (EP) 2009 EP by Shinee

Romeo is the second EP by South Korean boy group Shinee. It was released on May 25, 2009, in South Korea under the seal of the label SM Entertainment. The EP consists of six tracks including the title song "Juliette" and is Shinee's first Korean release after a seven-month hiatus. On August 29, 2011, a Japanese version of "Juliette" was released as Shinee's second Japanese single with the original Japanese song "Kiss Kiss Kiss" as a B-side. The release peaked at number three on the weekly Oricon chart.

Odd is the fourth Korean studio album by South Korean boy band Shinee. It was released digitally and physically on May 18, 2015, under SM Entertainment and distributed by KT Music. The album contains 11 songs, including the title track, "View". The music video for the title track was filmed in Thailand. The repackaged album, Married to the Music, was released on August 3, 2015, with four additional songs.

Shinee World 2014 was the third Japan nationwide concert tour by South Korean boy band Shinee, to promote their third Japanese studio album I'm Your Boy. The tour kicked off in Chiba on September 28, 2014, and ended on December 14 in Hyogo, with a total of 30 concerts in 20 cities. On March 14 and 15, 2015, Shinee performed at the Tokyo Dome for the finale performance, which was also their first time performing at the venue. The tour was attended by a total of 300,000 fans.

<i>Bad Love</i> (EP) 2021 EP by Key

Bad Love is the first Korean extended play by South Korean singer Key. It was released on September 27, 2021, through SM Entertainment. Marketed as his first "mini album" release, it consists of six songs, including the singles "Hate That..." and "Bad Love". The EP was Key's first solo release since returning from the military. Conceptually, it follows a retro space theme, inspired by the science fiction films of the 1980s and 1990s. It peaked at number three on South Korea's Gaon Album Chart and received positive reviews from music critics.

South Korean boy band Shinee have released 56 music videos and 14 video albums, and have additionally appeared in a number of films and television shows. They debuted in 2008 with the release of their first single, "Replay", and its accompanying music video. Since then, they have released music videos for numerous songs, including "Ring Ding Dong" (2009), "Lucifer" (2010), "Sherlock " (2012), "Everybody" (2013) and "View" (2015). In 2012, they released a video album showcasing their first concert in Japan, Shinee the 1st Concert in Japan "Shinee World", which ranked number two on the weekly Oricon DVD Chart. They have continued to release video albums for many of their subsequent concert tours. Shinee have appeared in the documentary films I Am (2012) and SM Town: The Stage (2015), and released the concert film My Shinee World in 2023. They have also starred in a number of reality shows, beginning with Shinee's Yunhanam in 2008.
