Everybody is the fifth EP recorded and performed by the South Korean contemporary R&B idol group Shinee. The EP consists of seven tracks and it incorporates complextro and R&B-slow jam music genres. It was released for physical purchase domestically and for digital download globally on October 14, 2013, by SM Entertainment. The track "Everybody" was chosen as the lead single for the promotional cycle. To promote the album, Shinee appeared on several South Korean music programs including M Countdown and Inkigayo .

Everybody received positive reviews from music critics—Jakob Dorof of Tiny Mix Tapes praised the album for showcasing the experimental and versatile nature of Shinee's music, and Billboard 's Jeff Benjamin positively viewed the group's attempt at EDM, stating the group found the balance of hyperactive EDM and pop stylings. The EP was commercially successful in South Korea and topped the Gaon Album Chart, selling more than 140,000 copies. This is the group's final Korean EP to feature Jonghyun, who died in December 2017.

Background and release

On October 4, 2013, SM Entertainment released the lyric video for a new song, "Symptoms", which was written by Jonghyun. It was composed by The Underdogs, who previously worked on Shinee's songs "Juliette," "Spoiler," and "Selene 6.23". [1] Shinee released Everybody digitally and physically on October 14. [2] [3] [4] The group began their promotions for the title song "Everybody" on October 10, starting with Mnet's M Countdown , and ended their promotions on November 17, 2013, on Inkigayo . [5] [6] After the release, the album charted high in Taiwan and debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart. [7] Shinee performed the title track "Everybody" for the first time during the 2013 Gangnam Hallyu Festival. [8]

Everybody contains a total of seven songs, including the title song "Everybody" and "Symptoms". The outfits for the album cover and the "Everybody" music video were from American designer Thom Browne's 2014 S/S Collection. [9] [10] For the album, many hit makers participated such as Thomas Troelsen, The Underdogs, Kenzie, and Jinbo. [11] The title song "Everybody" is classified under the "complextro" genre [12] and was choreographed by Tony Testa, who previously worked with Shinee on their past title tracks "Sherlock (Clue + Note)" and "Dream Girl". SM Entertainment performance director Hwang Sanghoon (also known as Greg) also participated in planning the choreography. [13] The music video for "Everybody" was released on October 10. [14] On December 20, Shinee released a music video for "Colorful" to thank their fans for their long continuous support. It includes video clips of the members' 2013 promotional activities. [15] As of 2014, the EP has sold more than 140,000 copies. [16]

Critical reception

Jakob Dorof of Tiny Mix Tapes gave the EP a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. He writes that "Everybody will never be anybody's Pet Sounds , I'm Still In Love With You , Discovery , Meets Rockers Uptown , A Love Supreme , or even FutureSex/LoveSounds —but we're getting closer. The recent Pink Tape album by f(x)—a group engineered by SM Entertainment to be the female derivative of Shinee, one of their most successful boy bands—marked a big step forward, and now f(x)'s brother-progenitors have taken things even further. A seven-song mini-album (Korea's format of choice), Everybody makes for a leaner listen than the full-length Pink Tape and by some criteria may rank less impressive. But if we are searching for singular listens—ones devoid of filler, focus groupthink, or ill-fitting raps—then Everybody is K-pop's most sustained statement to date." Dorof remarked that "Close the Door" highlights the experimental and versatile nature of Shinee's music which frequently charts into unfamiliar territories. [23]

Jeff Benjamin of Billboard praised the title track, "Everybody", stating, "Shinee crams in loads of dubstep alongside bleeps, bloops, build-ups and breakdowns. The electronic overload is topped off with sweet boy band harmonies, resulting in an easy-to-digest electro-pop track". The choreography, however, was the highlight for the columnist, describing it as "the most impressive point of Shinee's comeback". [18]

Aside from group activities, he debuted as an actor in November 2010 in KBS2's drama special Pianist. He has since landed roles in television series such as Salamander Guru and The Shadows (2012), To the Beautiful You (2012), Medical Top Team (2013), My First Time (2015), and Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016). He made his feature film debut in 2016 with Canola. As a soloist, he has released the digital singles "I'm Home" (2019) and "Heartbreak" (2021). He released his debut solo EP Chase in 2022.

Lee Tae-min, better known mononymously as Taemin, is a South Korean singer and actor. He debuted as a member of the boy band Shinee in May 2008 and the supergroup SuperM in 2019, both under SM Entertainment, and has subsequently been labeled by media outlets as the "Idol's Idol" due to the large number of idols citing him as an inspiration. As an actor, Taemin's first role was as Junsu in the 2009 MBC comedy Tae-Hee, Hye-Kyo, Ji-Hyun.

Replay is the debut EP of South Korean boy group Shinee, released on May 22, 2008 through their label SM Entertainment. The lead single, "Replay", was created by producer Yoo Young-jin with a contemporary, sophisticated R&B feel and rhythm. The EP consists of five tracks and debuted at number 10 on the MIAK charts, peaking at number eight. The lead single became a hit, especially with the adult female demographic, because of its line, "Noona, you’re so pretty". Rino Nakasone worked on the choreography for the title song. The Korean music video included f(x)'s Victoria as the female lead, while the song's Japanese music video featured Yoona of Girls' Generation.

<i>Romeo</i> (EP) 2009 EP by Shinee

Romeo is the second EP by South Korean boy group Shinee. It was released on May 25, 2009, in South Korea under the seal of the label SM Entertainment. The EP consists of six tracks including the title song "Juliette" and is Shinee's first Korean release after a seven-month hiatus. On August 29, 2011, a Japanese version of "Juliette" was released as Shinee's second Japanese single with the original Japanese song "Kiss Kiss Kiss" as a B-side. The release peaked at number three on the weekly Oricon chart.

Sherlock is the fourth EP of the South Korean boy group Shinee. The EP consists of seven tracks, including the title song "Sherlock ", a "hybrid remix" of two songs. It was composed and arranged by Thomas Troelsen, Rufio Sandilands, Rocky Morris and Thomas Eriksen, with lyrics penned by Jo Yoon-kyung. "Everybody" is a K-pop song of the complextro music genre performed by the South Korean boy group Shinee. It was released digitally and physically on October 5, 2016, under SM Entertainment and distributed by KT Music. The album contains nine songs, including the title track of the same name, "1 of 1". Musically, the album is a modernized twist on the retro genre, and stretches back to the 1980–1990 period. Additionally, based on their '90s theme, the group released a limited edition of cassette tapes alongside the CD version. In order to promote the album, Shinee appeared on several South Korean music programs, such as Music Bank, Show! Music Core, and Inkigayo, where they performed material from the album. <i>Dont Call Me</i> (album) 2021 studio album by Shinee

Don't Call Me is the seventh Korean studio album by South Korean boy group Shinee. The album was released on February 22, 2021, through SM Entertainment. It is the group's first release since three of the members completed their military service with the exception of member Taemin and also the group's first album not to feature late member Jonghyun in any capacity. Working with producers such as Dem Jointz, Yoo Young-jin, Kenzie, and Ryan S. Jhun, the album spans several genres such as pop, hip hop, EDM, R&B, and reggae. Shinee forwent an overarching theme for the album, instead opting for songs that marked the group's return after almost three years and presenting the record as a gift to fans. A repackage of the album, Atlantis, was released on April 12, 2021.

"View" is a song recorded by South Korean boy band Shinee for their fourth Korean-language studio album Odd (2015). Band member Jonghyun wrote the lyrics, while LDN Noise, Ryan S. Jhun, and Adrian McKinnon handled the composition and production. The song was released on May 18, 2015, as the album's lead single by SM Entertainment. The song incorporates deep house and pop, featuring stripped-down instrumentation. The lyrics are about how people's senses are intensified by love.
