Their head coach was Rick Barnes, who was in his 12th year. The team played its home games at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas and are members of the Big 12 Conference. The Longhorns finished the season 24–10, 9–7 in Big 12 play and lost in the first round of the 2010 Big 12 men's basketball tournament. They received and at–large bid to the 2010 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, earning an 8 seed in the East Region. They were defeated in the first round by 9 seed Wake Forest in overtime.

The Big 12 Conference is a college athletic conference headquartered in Irving, Texas. As of July 2024, it consists of 12 full-member universities in the states of Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia.
The Texas Longhorns men's basketball team represents the University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's basketball competition. The Longhorns competed in the Big 12 Conference through the 2023–24 season and moved to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) on July 1, 2024.
The Texas A&M Aggies men's basketball team represents Texas A&M University in NCAA Division I college basketball. The Aggies compete in the Southeastern Conference. Since 1998, the teams has played its home games at Reed Arena, a 12,989-capacity arena in College Station, Texas on the campus of Texas A&M University. Texas A&M has appeared in the NCAA tournament 16 times, most recently in 2024. The Aggies are currently coached by Buzz Williams who was hired on April 3, 2019, prior to the start of the 2019–2020 season.
The 1986 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament began on March 12 and ended on March 30. The tournament expanded to 40 teams from 32. The Final Four consisted of Texas, Tennessee, Western Kentucky, and USC, with Texas defeating Southern California, 97-81 in the championship game. Texas's Clarissa Davis was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. With their championship win, Texas completed the first undefeated season (34-0) since the NCAA began sponsoring women's basketball in 1982.
The 1987 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament began on March 11, ended on March 29, and featured 40 teams. The Final Four were Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, and Long Beach State, with Tennessee winning its first title with a 67-44 victory over Louisiana Tech. Tennessee's Tonya Edwards was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.

The 1995–96 Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team represented the University of Michigan in intercollegiate college basketball during the 1995–96 season. The team played its home games in the Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and was a member of the Big Ten Conference. Under the direction of head coach Steve Fisher, the team finished fifth in the Big Ten Conference. The team earned an invitation to the 1996 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament as a number seven seed where it was eliminated in the first round. The team was ranked for thirteen of the eighteen weeks of Associated Press Top Twenty-Five Poll, starting the season ranked seventh, peaking at number sixteen and ending unranked, and it also ended the season unranked in the final USA Today/CNN Poll. The team had a 3–7 record against ranked opponents, including the following victories: December 9, 1995, against #18 Duke 88–84 at home, January 9, 1996, against #21 Illinois 83–68 at home, 1/21 #14 Penn State 67–66 at home.

They finished the season 19–8, 11–6 in Big 12 play to finish in a tie for third place. As the No. 3 seed in the Big 12 tournament, they defeated Texas Tech in the first round and advanced to the tournament championship game due to COVID-19 issues at Kansas. There they defeated Oklahoma State to win the Big 12 Tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 3 seed in the East region. They were upset in the First Round by Abilene Christian.

They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 6 seed in the East Region, where they defeated Virginia Tech in the first round before losing to Purdue in the second round.

They were led by interim head coach Rodney Terry and played their home games at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas as members of the Big 12 Conference. The Longhorns played at the newly-built Moody Center after playing at Frank Erwin Center for 45 years. They finished the season 23–8, 12–6 in Big 12 play to finish in second place. As the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 tournament, they defeated Oklahoma State, TCU, and top-seeded Kansas to win the tournament. They received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region, where they defeated Colgate, Penn State, and Xavier to reach the Elite Eight, their first appearance since 2008. There, the Longhorns finally fell to Miami (FL), bringing their season to a close with a final record of 29–9.
