The Arizona Diamondbacks' 2011 season , the franchise's 14th season in Major League Baseball, included the team's first National League West championship since 2007, subsequently, their fifth division title since coming into MLB. They lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in five games in the NLDS.

Lyle Stefan Overbay is an American former professional baseball first baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Pirates, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, and Milwaukee Brewers from 2001 through 2014.
Micah Burton Owings is an American former professional baseball player who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres between 2007 and 2012. During his career, Owings was used as a pitcher and an occasional pinch-hitter; he also played outfielder in the minor leagues. While playing for the Diamondbacks in 2007, he was honored with a Silver Slugger Award as the top-hitting pitcher.
The 2003 Arizona Diamondbacks season was the franchise's 6th season in Major League Baseball and their 6th season at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix, Arizona, as members of the National League West. They looked to improve on their 98–64 record from 2002. They looked to contend in what was once again a strong National League West. They finished the season with a record of 84–78, good enough for third place in the division.

The 1998 Arizona Diamondbacks season was the franchise's 1st season in Major League Baseball and their 1st season at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, as members of the National League West. They looked to contend in what was a strong National League West. They finished the season 33 games behind the National League Champion San Diego Padres with a record of 65–97, last in the division.
The 1971 Kansas City Royals season was their third in Major League Baseball. The Royals had the first winning season (85–76) in franchise history, good enough for second place in the American League West and 16 games behind the Oakland Athletics. Kansas City earning a winning record in its third season was the second fastest of any expansion club in Major League Baseball history up to that point, the 1962 Los Angeles Angels achieved a winning record in their second season.
