The 2011 Seattle Mariners season was the 35th season in franchise history. The Mariners finished the season with 67 wins and 95 losses.
Daren Brown, the Seattle Mariners interim manager during the 2010 season, stated that he had interest in returning as the full-time manager in 2011. [1] On October 5, 2010, The Seattle Times reported that Mariners had requested and received permission from the Kansas City Royals to interview their bench coach John Gibbons, who previously served as the Toronto Blue Jays manager. [2] The Seattle Times also reported that the Mariners interviewed Bobby Valentine and Lloyd McClendon for the open managerial position. On October 15, 2010, Eric Wedge was hired as the manager.
Long-time broadcaster Dave Niehaus suffered a myocardial infarction (heart attack) at his Bellevue, Washington, home on November 10, 2010, and died at age 75 while preparing to barbecue some ribs on his deck. [3] Heart problems had forced Niehaus to undergo two angioplasties in 1996, causing him to give up smoking and change his diet. [4] He is survived by his wife, three children, and six grandchildren. The team wore patches on their jerseys in commemoration of Niehaus during the 2011 season. [5]

In baseball, a golden sombrero is a player's inglorious feat of striking out four times in a single game.
In baseball, a grand slam is a home run hit with all three bases occupied by baserunners, thereby scoring four runs—the most possible in one play. According to The Dickson Baseball Dictionary, the term originated in the card game of contract bridge, in which a grand slam involves taking all the possible tricks. The word slam, by itself, usually is connected with a loud sound, particularly of a door being closed with excess force; thus, slamming the door on one's opponent(s), in addition to the bat slamming the ball into a home run.
The Shreveport Captains (1971–2000) and Shreveport Swamp Dragons (2001–02) were a professional minor-league baseball team based in Shreveport, Louisiana. They were affiliated with the California Angels (1971–72), Milwaukee Brewers (1973–74), Pittsburgh Pirates (1975–78) and San Francisco Giants (1979–2002).
Below are lists of Rule 5 draft results since 1997. Players selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) phase of the Rule 5 draft must be kept on their new team's active roster for the entire following MLB season, or they are placed on waivers and offered back to their original team if not claimed. Players chosen in the Minor League Baseball phase(s) of the Rule 5 draft remain with their new organization without restrictions.
The 1987 Major League Baseball season ended with the American League Champion Minnesota Twins winning the World Series over the National League Champion St. Louis Cardinals, four games to three, as all seven games were won by the home team.
The 1983 Major League Baseball season ended with the Baltimore Orioles defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth game of the World Series. Rick Dempsey was named MVP of the Series. The All-Star Game was held on July 6 at Comiskey Park; the American League won by a score of 13–3, with California Angels outfielder Fred Lynn being named MVP.
The 2012 Seattle Mariners season was the 36th season in franchise history. The Mariners played their 13th full season at Safeco Field and finished with a record of 75–87, fourth place in the American League West.
The 2013 Seattle Mariners season was the 37th season in franchise history. The Mariners played their 14th full season at Safeco Field. They finished with a record of 71–91 and fourth place in the American League West.
The 2016 Toronto Blue Jays season was the 40th season of the franchise in Major League Baseball, and the 27th full season of play at Rogers Centre. They advanced to the playoffs where they defeated the Baltimore Orioles in the AWC Game and for the second year in a row, besting the Texas Rangers in the ALDS, reaching the ALCS, before losing in five games to the Cleveland Indians.
The 2018 Toronto Blue Jays season was the 42nd season of the franchise in Major League Baseball (MLB), and the 28th full season of play at Rogers Centre.
The 2018 New York Yankees season was the 116th season for the New York Yankees. This was the team's first season without manager Joe Girardi since 2007, and first season with manager Aaron Boone. The Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics in the Wild Card Game before losing to the Boston Red Sox in four games in the Division Series.
The 2019 New York Yankees season was the 117th season in New York City for the Yankees, and the 119th season overall for the franchise. The Yankees play in Yankee Stadium in the city's northern borough of The Bronx, and are led by Aaron Boone on his second season as team manager. After a 9–1 victory over the Angels at home on September 19, the Yankees clinched the American League East for the first time since the 2012 season. They opened the playoffs by defeating and sweeping the Minnesota Twins in the Division Series, but were eliminated in the American League Championship Series by the Houston Astros in six games. This marked the first calendar decade since the 1910s that the team failed to make a single World Series appearance. In addition, with the Mets losing in the 2015 World Series, the 2010s decade was the first calendar decade since the 1910s that a New York City team failed to win a World Series.
The 2023 season was the 123rd season for the Oakland Athletics franchise, and the 56th in Oakland. The Athletics failed to improve on their 60–102 record from the previous season, going 50–112. They started 10–45 in their first 55 games, which tied them with the 1904 Washington Senators and 1899 Cleveland Spiders for the worst 55-game start in MLB history and with a 21–60 first half, were on pace to tie the record for most losses in a season in the modern era set by the 1962 Mets before having a 29–52 second half to avoid breaking the record.
The 2024 season was the 124th season for the Oakland Athletics franchise, and the 57th in Oakland. It was the Athletics' final season in Oakland, before the team relocated after the owners approved the move unanimously on November 16, 2023. The team will take up temporary residency in West Sacramento for three seasons at the Sutter Health Park, operating as just the Athletics during that period of time.
