The 2024 Arizona Diamondbacks season was the franchise's 27th season in Major League Baseball and their 27th season at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, as members of the National League West. They were managed by Torey Lovullo in his eighth season with the franchise. They entered the season as the defending National League champions and runner-ups of the 2023 World Series. The Diamondbacks also opened this season with their best opening game in franchise history with a 16–1 blowout win at home over the Colorado Rockies, with 14 of those runs coming in the third inning.
On August 25, the Diamondbacks had a seven game lead on a wild card spot. However, the Diamondbacks faltered down the stretch, and on September 30, the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets played a make-up doubleheader. With the Diamondbacks needing one team to sweep the two games in order to claim one of the two remaining National League playoff spots, the Diamondbacks were eliminated from postseason contention after they split their doubleheader. All three teams ended with the same 89–73 record, with the Diamondbacks losing the tie-breaking season series to both the Braves and the Mets. [1]
For the season, the Diamondbacks changed their uniforms and logos.Teal came back permanently as a secondary for the first time since 2006. Replacing the Sedona red as the secondary color.

The underdog Diamondbacks defeated the heavily favored Yankees, four games to three to win the series. Historically, doubleheaders have been played in immediate succession, in front of the same crowd. Contemporarily, the term is also used to refer to two games played between two teams in a single day in front of different crowds and not in immediate succession.

Hinch following a 31–48 start to the 2010 season and promoted Kirk Gibson who had served as the bench coach of the team since the 2007 season. During the 2013 season, the Reds returned to the playoffs for a second straight season, after a 97–65 season in 2012, in which they lost in 5 games in the NLDS. On September 23, due to the Washington Nationals' loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Reds clinched a spot in the post-season. They entered the playoffs as a Wild Card team, becoming the first team to qualify for the postseason after finishing third in their respective division. They attempted to rebound from their first losing season since 2011 when they went 75–87. However, the Orioles instead suffered one of the worst seasons in MLB history, going 47–115 and missing the playoffs for the second straight season. They became the first team since the 2003 Detroit Tigers, who suffered a similar fate when they went 43–119, to have fewer than 50 wins in a full 162-game season. The Orioles held a losing record against all American League teams, ensured by their loss to the Houston Astros on September 28. First baseman Chris Davis posted a .168 batting average and a -2.7 WAR in his third year of a 7-year, $161 million contract, the worst of any player since Adam Dunn in 2011, who posted a -2.9 WAR and a .159 batting average.
