Akane Yamaguchi who lost in the final last year, made a redemption this year, after beating her compatriot Aya Ohori in the all-Japanese final 21-11, 21-13.

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is an Indian badminton player. Akane Yamaguchi is a Japanese badminton player who is the reigning two-time World Champion, winning gold in the women's singles at the 2021 and 2022 World Championships. She was on the winning Japanese team at the Asian Junior Championships in 2012 and won various women's singles titles afterward. She then won the World Junior Championships in 2013 and 2014, the Asian Junior Championships in 2014, and the Asian Championships in 2019. She helped Japan in winning by the maximum score of 3–0 at the 2017, 2018, and 2020 Asia Team Championships, and to end 37 years for Japan without a title in the Uber Cup in 2018.

The Girls' Singles tournament of the 2013 Asian Junior Badminton Championships was held from July 10–14 in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. The defending champion of the last edition was P. V. Sindhu from India. Busanan Ongbumrungpan, Hana Ramadhini, and Aya Ohori were the top 3 seeded this year. Ohori emerged as the champion after defeat Ongbumrungpan of Thailand in the finals with the score 21–11, 16–21, 21–13. It was the first time ever for Japan to win the gold medal in the girls' singles event.

The Girls Singles tournament of the 2012 BWF World Junior Championships was held from October 30 until November 3. The defending champion, Ratchanok Intanon, who won the tournament for 3 years in a row decided not to take part this time even though her age was still eligible.

The Girls' Singles tournament of the 2014 Asian Junior Badminton Championships was held from February 19–23 in Taipei, Taiwan. The defending champions of the last edition was Aya Ohori from Japan. Ohori competed in this event as the first seeds, but she was beaten by the eventual silver medalist Chen Yufei from China in the third round. Akane Yamaguchi of Japan claim the title after beat Chen in the final with the score 21–10, 21–15. The second and fifth seeded Busanan Ongbumrungpan of Thailand and Liang Xiaoyu of Singapore finished in the semi-finals round, settle for the bronze medal.

He Bingjiao is a Chinese badminton player. She began to receive intensive badminton training at the Suzhou Junior Sports School, when she was 7 years old. Five years later, she was sent to study in Nanjing and for tougher training there. The junior already competed in the senior level, and made her senior international debut at the 2013 Vietnam Open. In 2014, she competed at the Summer Youth Olympics, winning a gold medal in the girls' singles and a bronze in the mixed doubles event. She also won bronze medals at the World Championships in 2018 and 2021.
