The Slovenian Democratic Party, formerly the Social Democratic Party of Slovenia, is a conservative parliamentary party; it is also one of the largest parties in Slovenia, with approximately 30,000 reported members in 2013.
Ivan Janša, baptized and best known as Janez Janša, is a Slovenian politician who served three times as a prime minister of Slovenia, a position he had held from 2004 to 2008, from 2012 to 2013, and from 2020 to 2022. Since 1993, Janša has led the Slovenian Democratic Party, which has emerged as the pre-eminent Slovenian conservative party. Janša lost his fourth bid for prime minister in April 2022, his party defeated by the Freedom Movement party.
Boris Strel was a Slovenian alpine skier. He was born in Žiri, Slovenia. In December 1981, Strel took the only Slovenian top-level win in men's giant slalom in the 1982 Alpine Skiing World Cup competition in Cortina d'Ampezzo. He ended his career after the 1984/85 season due to problems with his spine and was later active as a ski school and a ski repair shop owner. Strel committed suicide on 28 March 2013.
Fran Albreht was a Slovenian poet, editor, politician and partisan. He also published under the pseudonym Rusmir.
Janez Albreht was a Slovenian theatre actor. He was a member of SNG in Ljubljana. He worked on the radio and TV Slovenia and took main roles in the dramas of William Shakespeare and Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. He received the Prešeren Fund Award in 1981.
Miljenko Licul was a Slovenian graphic designer of Croatian descent. He was one of the most prominent graphic designers in independent Slovenia.
Sport in Slovenia consists of a wide range of team and individual sports. The most popular team sports are football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, and handball. While the most popular individual sports are skiing, ski jumping, athletics, cycling, and tennis. Slovenia has competed at fifteen Olympic Games since its inaugural appearance at the 1992 Winter Olympics and is also known for its extreme sport athletes, such as ultramarathon swimmer Martin Strel and extreme skier Davo Karničar.
Maruša Krese was a Slovene poet, writer and journalist. Krese was born in Ljubljana in 1947. She studied literature and art history at the University of Ljubljana and psychodrama and Gestalt therapy in the United States in the early 1970s.
Slovenia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with the song "Straight into Love" written by Hannah Mancini, Gregor Zemljič, Erik Margan, Matija Rodić and Marko Primužak. The song was performed by Hannah, who was internally selected by Slovenian broadcaster Radiotelevizija Slovenija to represent Slovenia at the 2013 contest in Malmö, Sweden. Hannah was announced at the Slovenian representative on 1 February 2013, while the song, "Straight into Love", was presented to the public on 14 February 2013.
Slovenia competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, from 7 to 23 February 2014. Sixty-six competitors were chosen to participate, in eight sports. For the first time since the country's independence, the Slovenia men's national ice hockey team qualified for the Olympic tournament.
Parliamentary elections were held in Slovenia on 13 July 2014 to elect the 90 deputies of the National Assembly. The early election, less than three years after the previous one, was called following the resignation of Alenka Bratušek's government in May. Seventeen parties participated, including seven new parties, some of which formed only months before the election took place. Party of Miro Cerar (SMC), a new party led by lawyer and professor Miro Cerar, won the election with over 34% of the vote and 36 seats. Seven political parties won seats in the National Assembly. Three political parties left the Assembly, including Zoran Janković's Positive Slovenia, the winner of the 2011 election, and the Slovenian People's Party, which failed to win a seat for the first time since the first elections in 1990. A leftist United Left party entered the Assembly for the first time, winning six seats.
Presidential elections were held in Slovenia on 22 October 2017. Nine candidates ran in the first round of the elections, in which the incumbent independent President Borut Pahor placed first and Marjan Šarec of the List of Marjan Šarec (LMŠ) placed second. No candidate received a majority of the vote in the first round, resulting in a run-off between Pahor and that was held on 12 November 2017. Pahor won the run-off with 53% of the vote; voter turnout in the second round was 42.13%, the lowest in any presidential election since independence.

Vesna – Green Party is a Slovenian green political party, founded on 9 February 2022. At the founding congress, it presented the program and 4 program pillars: environment, democracy, social justice and creativity. The name Vesna derives from the Slavic goddess Vesna, associated with spring.
Emilija Stojmenova Duh is a Macedonian-Slovenian electrical engineer and politician. She was minister for digital transformation of the Republic of Slovenia from 1 June 2022 until 26 september 2024.
