Same-sex marriage has been legal in Slovenia since 9 July 2022 in accordance with a ruling from the Constitutional Court of Slovenia. The court ruled that the ban on same-sex marriages violated the Constitution of Slovenia and gave the Parliament six months to amend the law to align with the ruling, although the decision took effect immediately after publication. The National Assembly passed legislation to align with the court ruling on 4 October 2022, which was vetoed by the National Council one week later, but the veto was then overridden by the National Assembly on 18 October 2022.

Slovenia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 29 times since its debut in 1993, having hosted a qualification round in Ljubljana for seven countries due to the influx of new nations wishing to join the Eurovision Song Contest. Having only missed the event twice in 1994 and 2000 due to the relegation rule after a poor average score in the 1990s, Slovenia's best result is seventh position achieved on two occasions; in 1995 with "Prisluhni mi" performed by Darja Švajger and in 2001 with Nuša Derenda and "Energy". Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, Slovenia has qualified for the final on eight occasions. As of 2024, Slovenia has not made it to the top ten since their seventh place finish in 2001, only making it to the thirteenth position in 2002 and 2011.

The Ljubljana University Medical Centre or Ljubljana UMC is the largest hospital centre in Slovenia based in Ljubljana. It was officially opened on 29 November 1975 and as of December 2019 has over 2,100 beds and over 8,300 employees, making it one of the largest hospital centres in Central Europe.

Slovenia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 with the song "Nanana" written by Martin Štibernik and Karmen Stavec. The song was performed by Karmen, which is the artistic name of singer Karmen Stavec. Slovenian broadcaster Radiotelevizija Slovenija organised the national final EMA 2003 in order to select the Slovenian entry for the 2003 contest in Riga, Latvia. Sixteen entries competed in the national final where the winner was selected over two rounds of voting. In the first round, the top three entries were selected following the combination of votes from a five-member jury panel and a public televote. In the second round, "Lep poletni dan" performed by Karmen Stavec was selected as the winner entirely by a public televote. The song was later translated from Slovene to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "Nanana".

Slovenia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1997 with the song "Zbudi se" written by Saša Lošić and Zoran Predin. The song was performed by Tanja Ribič. Slovenian broadcaster Radiotelevizija Slovenija organised the national final EMA 1997 in order to select the Slovenian entry for the 1997 contest in Dublin, Ireland. 13 entries competed in the national final where "Zbudi se" performed by Tanja Ribič was selected as the winner entirely by a public televote.

Sport in Slovenia consists of a wide range of team and individual sports. The most popular team sports are football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, and handball. While the most popular individual sports are skiing, ski jumping, athletics, cycling, and tennis. Slovenia has competed at fifteen Olympic Games since its inaugural appearance at the 1992 Winter Olympics and is also known for its extreme sport athletes, such as ultramarathon swimmer Martin Strel and extreme skier Davo Karničar.

Slovenia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song "Round and Round" written by Raay, Tinkara Kovač, Hannah Mancini and Tina Piš. The song was performed by Tinkara Kovač. Songwriter Hannah Mancini represented Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 where she failed to qualify to the final with the song "Straight into Love". Slovenian broadcaster Radiotelevizija Slovenija organised the national final EMA 2014 in order to select the Slovenian entry for the 2014 contest in Copenhagen, Denmark. Seven entries competed in the national final where the winner was selected over two rounds of public televoting. In the first round, the top two entries were selected. In the second round, "Round and Round" performed by Tinkara Kovač was selected as the winner.

The Slovenia national football team have appeared at the UEFA European Championship twice, in 2000 and 2024.

Jurij Toplak is a constitutional scholar, university administrator, election law, and human rights expert. He is professor at University of Maribor and the head of the Cultural Formations research group at the Alma Mater Europaea University, and recurring visiting professor at the Fordham University School of Law in New York. Since 2016, he has served as the provost and vice-president of the Alma Mater Europaea university. The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The New York Times, and The Boston Globe published his legal comments. Toplak is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and serves as the co-chair of the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL) Freedom of Expression research group.
