The 2014 Colonial Athletic Association football season was the eight season of football for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and part of the 2014 NCAA Division I FCS football season. It was the first season for Elon in the CAA after being a member of the Southern Conference. New Hampshire went undefeated conference play, winning the CAA with a record of 8–0.
The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division I whose full-time members are located in East Coast states from Maine to South Carolina. Most of its members are public universities, and the conference is headquartered in Richmond. The CAA was historically a Southern conference until the addition of four schools in the Northeast after the turn of the 21st century, which added balance to the conference.
The 2014 NCAA Division I FCS football season, part of college football in the United States, was organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level. The season began on August 23, 2014, and concluded with the National Championship Game on January 10, 2015, at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
The Elon Phoenix football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the Elon University located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The school which first fielded a football team in 1909, competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). After 11 seasons in the Southern Conference, Elon joined the Colonial Athletic Association for all sports, including football, in 2014. The Phoenix play their home games at the 13,100 seat Rhodes Stadium.
In 2013, the CAA played with 11 members, and were welcoming in Albany and Stony Brook to replace Georgia State and Old Dominion, who left for the FBS. Maine won the conference with a record of 7–1 in conference, and was joined in the FCS Playoffs by New Hampshire and Towson. Maine would receive the #5 seed in the playoffs, but be eliminated in their first game by New Hampshire. New Hampshire would go on to the semifinals, and fall on the road to #1 seed North Dakota State. Towson would earn the #7 seed, and go all the way to the National Championship game, only to fall to North Dakota State.
The Albany Great Danes football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the University at Albany located in the U.S. state of New York. The team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a football-only member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The 2013 season was the Great Danes' first in the CAA, following a 14-year tenure in the Northeast Conference.
The Stony Brook Seawolves football program is the collegiate football team that represents Stony Brook University at the NCAA Division I level. The program participates in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision and currently competes in the eleven-member Colonial Athletic Association. The program plays its home games at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, New York.
The Georgia State Panthers football team is the college football program for Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. The Panthers football team was founded in 2010 and competes at the NCAA Division I FBS level. The team is a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
Greg Gattuso is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the head coach at the University at Albany, taking over from long-time head coach Bob Ford. He was formerly the defensive line coach at the University of Maryland, under head coach Randy Edsall, a position he assumed in January 2011. Gattuso served as the head coach at Duquesne University from 1993 to 2004, compiling a record of 97–32. From 2005 to 2010, he was an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh.
David Brock is an American football coach who is the wide receivers coach of the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). He previously was the head coach of University of Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens football team from 2013 to 2016.
Rich Skrosky is an American college football coach and former player. He was hired as head football coach at Elon University for the 2014 season. Skrosky served as an assistant coach at Elon under Pete Lembo from 2006 to 2010. Lembo's tenure brought new success to Elon's football program, which made its first FCS playoff appearance in 2009. Lembo was hired as head coach at Ball State University after the 2010 season. Skrosky joined Lembo's staff as offensive coordinator.
