Senate elections were held in Kazakhstan on 1 October 2014 during the 5th convocation of the Kazakh Senate. [1] The elections were held following a decree by then-president Nursultan Nazarbayev. [2]

Seats

All 16 seats representing the regions of Kazakhstan were elected by the local legislative bodies (maslihats). 3,236 out of the 3,279 eligible legislators voted in the election. [3]

Electoral system

Members of the Senate are elected on the basis of indirect suffrage by secret ballot. Half of elected members of the Senate are up for election every three years. Fifteen members are appointed by the President of Kazakhstan with the view to ensure representation for all the diverse national, cultural components of society. The term of office for the members of the Senate is 6 years. [4]

Structure of Senate

Each region, and the cities of Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent are represented by two senators, while 15 senators are appointed by the President of Kazakhstan. [5]

Auyl Peoples Democratic Patriotic Party Political party in Kazakhstan

The Auyl People's Patriotic Democratic Party or simply as Auyl, is a political party in Kazakhstan. It was originally founded by Gani Qaliev on 30 January 2000 as the Auyl Peasant Social Democratic Party before eventually merging with the Party of Patriots of Kazakhstan on 5 September 2015. The party is currently led by Senator for Turkistan Region Äli Bektaev from August 2015. With a membership of around 300,000 people, the Auyl since 2004 has participated in every Kazakhstan's parliamentary elections although never managing to enter the Mazhilis and has once nominated presidential candidate Toleutai Raqymbekov in 2019 presidential elections.

The Senate of Kazakhstan is the upper house of two chambers in Kazakhstan's legislature, known as the Parliament (Parlamenti). The Senate is composed of elected members: two from each region and two from three municipalities which are Almaty, Nur-Sultan, and Shymkent.

2015 Kazakh presidential election Presidential election in Kazakhstan

Snap presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan on 26 April 2015 to elect the President of Kazakhstan. This was the fifth presidential election held and second without having any formal opposition candidates. With the highest-ever nationwide turnout of 95.2%, the result was a victory for long-term incumbent President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Nur Otan who received 97.8% of the vote, the largest since 1991, thus winning a fifth term in office while his closest challenger, Turgyn Syzdyqov, received only 1.6% of the votes.

2019 Kazakh presidential election Presidential election held in Kazakhstan

Snap presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan on 9 June 2019 to elect the President of Kazakhstan following the resignation of long-term President Nursultan Nazarbayev in March 2019. This was the sixth presidential election held since Kazakhstan's independence and the third one in the row to be held on an earlier date. With a turnout of 77.5%, the lowest since 2005, acting president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Nur Otan won a majority of 71% of the vote, the least amount ever garnered for an incumbent president in Kazakhstan's history. His closest challenger was Amirjan Qosanov of the Ult Tagdyry association, who received 16%, the highest ever for a non-incumbent candidate since 2005. The elections were widely denounced as a sham.

2021 Kazakh legislative election Legislative election in Kazakhstan

Legislative elections were held in Kazakhstan on 10 January 2021 to elect the members of the Mazhilis. This was the 8th legislative election in Kazakhstan's history since its independence. It coincided with the 2021 local elections. This election marks the first to be held under Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's presidency and the first since 2004 to be held at the normally scheduled date, rather than due to an early dissolution of the Mazhilis.

2019 Bashkir head election

The 2019 Bashkir head election was held on 8 September 2019 in the autonomous republic of Bashkortostan. The result was a victory for Radiy Khabirov who won 82.02% of the vote.

2005 Kazakh Senate election

Senate elections were held in Kazakhstan on 19 August 2005. All 16 seats representing the regions of Kazakhstan were elected by the local legislative bodies (maslihats). 3155 of the 3287 illegible electorates voted in the election.

2020 Kazakh Senate elections

Senate elections were held in Kazakhstan on 12 August 2020. All 17 of the 49 seats were up for reelection including the newly created represented seat from the city of Shymkent. 2889 out of total 3069 members of the Mäslihats cast their vote for a Senator representing each region and three municipal cities.

From February 2006 to May 2008, he was the Äkim of Turkistan and continued serving as deputy until 2014. He's also the Chairman of Auyl People's Democratic Patriotic Party since 26 August 2015.

Senate elections were held in Kazakhstan on 8 October 2002. All the 16 represented seats in the Senate were elected by 3304 out of 3153 mäslihat members.

July 2021 Kazakh local elections

Local elections were held in Kazakhstan on 25 July 2021. 730 rural äkıms (local heads) whose four year terms were set to expire were reelected for the first time directly by the population following an introduction of new law by the Parliament, which would allow for direct elections for äkıms of cities with district importance, villages, and the townships of rural districts.

Presidency of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev

Presidency of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev originally began on 20 March 2019, when he assumed office shortly after resignation long-time President Nursultan Nazarbayev where as a Senate Chairman, Tokayev became the Presidential Designate in accordance to the Constitution and would serve as an acting head of state. After declaring snap presidential elections, Tokayev along with endorsement by Nazarbayev become the candidate for the ruling Nur Otan party and swept 71% of the vote in the race, thus becoming officially the 2nd President of Kazakhstan. After being inaugurated on 12 June 2019, Tokayev pledged to uphold many of the previous enacted policies that were made by Nazarbayev and at the same time, continue and accelerate social and political reforms.
