Belinda Bencic won the women's singles tennis title at the 2015 Canadian Open after Simona Halep retired in the final, with scoreline at 7–6(7–5), 6–7(4–7), 3–0. Bencic defeated six major finalists in succession en route to her first WTA Tour title. At 18 years and 23 weeks of age, Bencic became the youngest woman to win the tournament, surpassing Ana Ivanovic's record from 2006.

The 2015 Japan Women's Open was a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the seventh edition of the Japan Women's Open, and part of the WTA International tournaments of the 2015 WTA Tour. It was held at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan, from September 14 through September 20, 2015. The tournament was moved from Osaka to Tokyo starting this year.

Camila Giorgi was the defending champion of the 2016 Ricoh Open, but withdrew before the tournament began.

Sloane Stephens was the defending champion, but lost in the first round to Risa Ozaki.

Jelena Janković was the defending champion, but chose to participate in Florianópolis instead.

Agnieszka Radwańska was the defending champion, but lost in the semifinals to Caroline Wozniacki.

Elena Vesnina defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final, 6–7(6–8), 7–5, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2017 Indian Wells Masters.

Defending champion Simona Halep defeated Kristina Mladenovic in the final, 7–5, 6–7(5–7), 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2017 Madrid Open.

Elina Svitolina defeated Caroline Wozniacki in the final, 6–4, 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2017 Canadian Open. It was her third consecutive Premier 5 title, making her the first woman to win the first three Premier 5 tournaments in a season, as well as the first to win three consecutive Premier 5 tournaments since Wozniacki won Montreal and Tokyo in 2010 and Dubai in 2011. This was also Wozniacki's sixth consecutive loss in a final in 2017, making her the first to lose that many finals in a row in one season, as well as the first woman to lose six finals in a single season since Maria Sharapova in 2012.

Evgeniya Rodina was the defending champion, but lost in the first round to Eri Hozumi.

Simona Halep defeated Sloane Stephens in the final, 7–6(8–6), 3–6, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2018 Canadian Open.

Caroline Garcia was the defending champion, but lost in the second round to Wang Yafan.
