The 2017 FC Vorkuta season was the first season in the club's participation in the Canadian Soccer League. The club made its professional debut on May 27, 2017 in a home match against Milton SC, which resulted in a 7-0 victory with goals coming from Oleh Kerchu, Danylo Lazar, Oleg Shutov, Vadym Gostiev, and Yaroslav Svorak. [1] The season concluded with Vorkuta clinching the regular season title in their debut season. [2] [3] In the postseason they achieved a victory in the preliminary round, but were eliminated from the competition in the semifinals. [4]
After nine years of competition at the senior amateur level FC Vorkuta made the transition to the professional ranks in 2017 by becoming a member in the Canadian Soccer League. [5] In preparation for the 2017 CSL season the team hired the services of Serhiy Zayets as head coach. [6] Zayets assembled a roster with several key CSL veterans acquired primarily from FC Ukraine United. The acquisitions included Sergiy Ivliev, Oleg Shutov, Mykhailo Bulkin, Vitaliy Dnistryan, Danylo Lazar, Vadym Gostiev, and Oleh Kerchu was named the team captain. In addition to the CSL veterans several imports were brought in from Ukraine and Russia to further strengthen the roster. [7]
Vorkuta also fielded a reserve squad in the CSL Second Division. [8] In the earlier stages of the season the club achieved an eight-game undefeated streak with only two defeats throughout the season. [9] They concluded the season by clinching the regular season title with the highest offensive record. Their playoff campaign commenced with an early victory over Royal Toronto FC, but were eliminated from the competition after a 1-0 defeat to Scarborough SC. [10]

The club ended their CSL campaign with a club record by securing their first professional championship title in the First Division, and the double in the Second Division. The club qualified for the playoffs for the second consecutive season after finishing second in the First Division. In the postseason Vorkuta defeated the likes of Real Mississauga, and SC Waterloo Region in order to reach the championship final. Their opposition in the finals were Scarborough SC, where Vorkuta claimed their first CSL Championship after a victory in a penalty shootout.
The 2018 season was Scarborough SC's fourth season in the Canadian Soccer League. Their season official commenced on May 19, 2018 in an away match against FC Ukraine United. The season proved to be a successful one as Scarborough managed to compete in the top four and ultimately secured a playoff berth by finishing fourth in the First Division. In the postseason tournament Scarborough successfully defeated Hamilton City SC, and FC Ukraine in the earlier rounds in order to reach the CSL Championship final for the second straight season. Their opposition in the finals were FC Vorkuta, but ultimately were defeated in a penalty shootout.
The 2018 season was FC Ukraine United's third season in the Canadian Soccer League, and twelve season since their founding in the Ontario Soccer League. The season marked United's return to the First Division after participating in the Second Division the previous year. After a competitive season with FC Vorkuta the club won their first division title on September 23, 2018.In the postseason United won their preliminary match against Brantford Galaxy, but were defeated in the second round to Scarborough SC. Pavlo Lukyanets, a veteran striker from Ukraine was United's top goalscorer with twelve goals.

The season commenced on August 15, 2020, and concluded with the CSL Championship final on October 17, 2020. FC Vorkuta defeated the reigning champions Scarborough SC at Racco Park in Vaughan, Ontario, and secured their second championship. While Scarborough made their fourth consecutive appearance in the championship final and claimed their first divisional title.
