Due to the restructuring of the CONCACAF Champions League for the 2018 edition, two Canadian Championship tournaments were held before the Champions League was scheduled. [6] However, because Toronto ended up winning the 2017 Canadian Championship, they qualified automatically, and a play-off was not held.
