The 2017 Korean Series was the championship series of the 2017 KBO League season. The Kia Tigers, as the regular season champions, automatically advanced to the Korean Series. [1] They played the winner of the playoff series, the Doosan Bears, who had defeated the NC Dinos in the playoff. [2] Kia won the best-of-seven series, 4–1. Moon Jae-in, the President of South Korea, threw the ceremonial first pitch. [3] Dustin Nippert started Game 1 for Doosan and Héctor Noesí started for Kia. [4] Oh Jae-won drew a walk with the bases loaded in the fourth inning to score Doosan's first run. In the fifth inning, Park Kun-woo hit a run batted in (RBI) single, and Kim Jae-hwan and Oh Jae-il hit back-to-back home runs for Doosan in the fifth inning. In their half of the fifth inning, Roger Bernadina hit a three-run home run for Kia, and Doosan held on to win 5–3. [5]

Yang Hyeon-jong started Game 2 for the Tigers, while Chang Won-jun started for the Bears. [5] Yang threw a complete game shutout, allowing four hits and recording 11 strikeouts. Kim Joo-chan scored the game's only run in the eighth inning after hitting a double. [6]

Pat Dean threw seven innings for Kia. He pitched aggressively, inducing weak contact from Doosan's hitters. [7] Lee Myung-ki hit an RBI double in the third inning to give Kia a 1-0 lead, and An Chi-hong hit a two RBI single in the fourth inning to increase the lead to 3-0. The Bears scored in the bottom of the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly by Yang Eui-ji, but the Tigers scored again in the fifth inning with an RBI single by Bernadina. Nick Evans hit a home run for the Bears in the seventh inning and Kim Jae-hwan had an RBI for the Bears in the eighth inning to narrow the score to 4-3. Na Ji-wan entered the game as a pinch hitter for Kia in the ninth inning, and hit a two-run home run. [8]

Im Gi-yeong started for the Tigers, and Yoo Hee-kwan started for the Bears. Bernadina hit an RBI triple in the first inning for Kia, and scored on a single by Choi Hyung-woo. The Tigers scored two more runs in the seventh inning. The Bears scored a run in the eighth inning, but Kia scored a run in the top of the ninth inning. Kim Se-hyun earned his second save of the series for the Tigers, pitching the final 1+13 innings. [9]

Game 5 was a rematch of Game 1's starting pitchers, Noesí for Kia and Nippert for Doosan. [10] Lee Bum-ho hit a grand slam for Kia off of Nippert in the third inning. Yang Hyeon-jong earned the save, pitching out of a bases loaded situation in the ninth inning. Kia won their first Korean Series since 2009. [11] [12] Yang won the Korean Series Most Valuable Player Award. [13]

Lee Seung-yuop is a retired baseball player and the current manager of the Doosan Bears. He spent most of his career with the Samsung Lions of the KBO League. At the age of 26, he became the youngest professional baseball player in the world to hit 300 career home runs. He formerly held the Asian home run record of 56 homers in a season, established in 2003 while playing for Samsung in the KBO. Lee holds the KBO records for career runs scored, RBI, total bases, and slugging percentage. Combined, across the KBO and NPB, Lee has also recorded more hits than any other native-born South Korean player. Since the 2022 KBO season as the manager of the Doosan Bears, Lee has two playoff appearances. In 2022, Lee lead the Bears to their first wild card game under his reign against the NC Dinos where they were eliminated from playoff contention after losing their first game. Lee then continued to the playoffs in 2024 where he lost against the KT Wiz that ended their season.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Dustin Nippert</span> American baseball player (born 1981)

Dustin David Nippert is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball, and the Doosan Bears and KT Wiz of the KBO League. Nippert won the KBO League Most Valuable Player Award in 2016. With eight seasons in the KBO, Nippert holds the record for the longest career of any foreign player.

Song Jin-woo is a South Korean retired left-handed pitcher. Song played in the KBO League for 21 seasons between 1989 and 2009 with the Hanwha Eagles. He currently holds several pitching records for the KBO, including his 210 wins and 3,003 innings pitched. He is one of two pitchers in KBO League history to win 200 games, and strike out 2,000 or more batters. Because of his central role in establishing the Korean baseball players' association, he has the nickname of "Mr. President."

The 2007 Korean Series began on Monday, 22 October, at the Munhak Baseball Stadium in Incheon. It featured the SK Wyverns, who had claimed home ground advantage by finishing in first place at the end of the season, and the Doosan Bears, who had finished second and had swept the Hanhwa Eagles in a best-of-5 playoff series to advance to the next round. The SK Wyverns won the series in six games, after becoming the first team in Korean Series history to claim victory after losing the first two games. The series was also notable for the inability of teams to win at their home grounds and for some unsavory and aggressive incidents between the two teams that marred the first three games.

Rogearvin Argelo "Roger" Bernadina, nicknamed "The Shark," is a Dutch Curaçaoan professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Reds, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He also played in the KBO League for the Kia Tigers and in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) for the Lamigo Monkeys. He was a member of the Dutch national baseball team in international competitions including the World Baseball Classic (WBC).

The 2008 Korean Series began on Monday, 26 October, at the Munhak Baseball Stadium in Incheon. It featured the SK Wyverns, who had claimed home ground advantage by finishing in first place at the end of the season, and the Doosan Bears, who had finished second and had defeated the Samsung Lions in a best-of-7 playoff series to advance to the next round. Yang Hyeon-jong is a Korean professional baseball pitcher for the Kia Tigers of the KBO League. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Texas Rangers. He made his MLB debut with Texas in 2021. He won the Korean Series in 2009 and 2017, and was the Korean Series MVP and KBO MVP in 2017 as well. He is the KBO all–time leader in strikeouts.

Na Jiwan is a South Korean former professional baseball outfielder. From 2008 to 2022, he played for the Kia Tigers of the KBO League. He batted and threw right-handed.

The 2018 Korean Series is the championship series of the 2018 KBO League season. The Doosan Bears, as the regular season champions, automatically advanced to the Korean Series, where they faced the SK Wyverns. The series ran from November 4 to November 12.

The 2019 Central League Climax Series (CLCS) was a postseason playoff consisting of two consecutive series that determined which of the three teams who finished in the top three during the 2019 regular season would represent the Central League in the Japan Series. The First Stage was a best-of-three series played between the second-place hosts Yokohama DeNA BayStars and the third-place Hanshin Tigers. The series was played between October 5 to 7. The Tigers defeated the Baystars 2–1 and advanced to the Final Stage to face the pennant-winning Yomiuri Giants.

The 2019 Korean Series is the championship series of the 2019 KBO League season. The Doosan Bears, as the regular season champions, automatically advanced to the Korean Series, where they faced the Kiwoom Heroes. The series ran from October 22 to October 26.
