The 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup was a series of races in Olympic Cross-Country (XCO), Cross-Country Eliminator (XCE), and Downhill (DHI). Each discipline had an Elite Men and an Elite Women category. There were also men's and women's under-23 categories in the XCO and junior men's and women's categories in the DHI. The cross-country series had six rounds and the downhill series had seven rounds. [1] [2]
The Cross-Country Eliminator (XCE) was included as a UCI World Cup discipline for the first time since 2014. [3] The XCE schedule for 2017 had six rounds. The XCE World Cup events had previously been held alongside the XCO and DHI races, but in 2017 they were held as separate events. [4] [5]
The Junior Women's Downhill category was included as a World Cup discipline for the first time in 2017.
New regulations were introduced in 2017 to reduce the numbers of competitors in the UCI World Cup downhill events. The minimum number of UCI points required to compete in a World Cup was increased from 30 to 40. The field sizes for the downhill finals were reduced from 20 to 15 (plus protected riders) for the Elite Women and from 30 to 20 for the Junior Men. [2]
Nino Schurter was the first Cross-country mountain biker to accomplish a Perfect season. Additionally he won at the World Championships the gold medal at the single and at the mixed race and the Cape Epic. [17]

Nino Schurter is a Swiss cross-country cyclist who races for the Scott–Sram MTB Racing Team.
Danny Hart is a British downhill mountain biker who currently rides for Cube Factory Racing. He won the 2011 and 2016 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships.
Jolanda Neff is a Swiss cyclist, who primarily rides in the cross-country cycling and cyclo-cross disciplines, for the Trek Factory Racing team. She won the gold medal in the women's cross-country event at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Previously, Richards had been under-23 cyclo-cross world champion at the 2016 and 2018 World Championships. In 2022, Richards added a first Commonwealth Games gold in cross-country mountain bike to her palmarès.

The 2016 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships was the 27th edition of the UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships. Unlike in previous years, the world championships for the various disciplines were held at two different locations. The world championships in cross-country were held in Nové Město na Moravě, Czech Republic from 28 June to 3 July 2016. The downhill, four-cross, and trials events were held at Val di Sole, Italy from 29 August to 11 September 2016.
Alan Hatherly is a South African professional mountain bike racer. He rode at the cross-country event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He finished in 26th place with a time of 1:42:03. In 2018, Alan achieved a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games, subsequently going on to be crowned the 2018 Under 23 Cross Country World Champion.
Anne Terpstra is a Dutch cross-country cyclist. She placed 15th in the women's cross-country race at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She was on the start list of 2018 Cross-Country European Championships and was not allowed to finish.
