The top finishers of each tournament will advance to the 2013 World Junior Curling Championships in Sochi, Russia. In the men's tournament, Italy regained a spot in the World Junior Championships after a last place finish at last year's worlds with a win over Denmark. In the women's tournament, Denmark won a spot in the World Junior Championships with a win over Hungary.

It marked the first time that a World Curling Championship had been held in Halifax, and the first time that a World Curling Championship event had been held in the province since the World Junior Curling Championships were held in Dartmouth in 1986.

Brazil and the United States played a best-of-five series with the United States skip Heath McCormick winning three games in a row to win the challenge.

The 2017 World Women's Curling Championship was a curling event held between March 18–26 at the Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing, China. The winning Rachel Homan rink from Canada was the first team to go through a women's world championship undefeated since the event began in 1979, winning 13 games through the round robin, playoffs and final. Runners-up Russia took their first silver medal on this event.

The challenge is not automatically held every year, and only takes place when a team in the Americas zone challenges the second-ranked Americas team in that year's World Curling Championship.

This challenge determined the second team from the Americas Zone to qualify for the 2020 World Men's Championship and the 2020 World Women's Championship. It was held as part of the 2019 Curl Mesabi Classic World Curling Tour event.
The 2020 United States Mixed Doubles Curling Championship was held from February 27 to March 1 at the Bemidji Curling Club in Bemidji, Minnesota. The twelve teams were divided into two pools of six teams each. Each pool played a full round robin with the top three from each pool proceeding to the playoffs. The winning team of Tabitha Peterson and Joe Polo was supposed to represent the United States at the 2020 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Kelowna, Canada but the event got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They will instead compete at the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland as the 2021 U.S. Mixed Doubles National Championship was postponed due to the pandemic.

The event was held in conjunction with the 2020 United States Women's Curling Championship. John Shuster claimed his seventh United States Championship, defeating Rich Ruohonen in the final.

The event was held in conjunction with the 2020 United States Men's Curling Championship. In the final, Tabitha Peterson defeated Jamie Sinclair 7–5.
The 2021 Americas Challenge is a curling challenge that took place from October 29 to 31 at Lacombe Curling Club in Lacombe, Alberta. The challenge was used to determine the second team from the Americas Zone to qualify for the 2022 World Men's Curling Championship, as the United States already qualifies as the host nation. It is the second time Canada has participated in the challenge, with their first being in 2018 where they defeated Brazil 3–0 in the best-of-five series. No women's challenge was held.

The event was used to qualify teams for the 2023 World Curling Championships. The event featured both an A Division and a B Division for both the men's and women's. This new championship combined the Pacific-Asia Curling Championships and the Americas Challenge into one event.
The 2023 Pan Continental Curling Championships were held from October 29 to November 4 at the Kelowna Curling Club in Kelowna, British Columbia. The event was used to qualify teams for the 2024 World Curling Championships. Both men's and women's events consisted of an A Division and B Division.
The 2024 United States Women's Curling Championship was held from January 29 to February 4 at The Rink at American Dream in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The event was held in conjunction with the 2024 United States Men's Curling Championship. The winning Tabitha Peterson rink represented the United States at the 2024 World Women's Curling Championship at Centre 200 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. Team Peterson also earned the first berth into the 2025 United States Olympic Curling Trials.
