The 2018 Maluku gubernatorial election was held on 27 June 2018 to determine the Governor and Deputy Governor of Maluku. The election took place simultaneously with other regional elections in 2018. Incumbent governor Said Assagaff ran for his second term in office against Commander of the Police Mobile Brigade Corps Murad Ismail. Murad managed to defeat Said, becoming governor on 24 April 2019.
Under Indonesia's election regulations, only political parties that have 20% or more of the seats in the Maluku People's Representative Council can nominate candidates. Political parties with less seats can nominate candidates only if they have obtained support from other political parties or through independent channels.

Two rounds of a gubernatorial election were held in Jakarta as part of the 2017 simultaneous elections on 15 February and 19 April 2017 to elect the governor of Jakarta to a five-year term. Incumbent governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, popularly referred to as "Ahok", and his deputy Djarot Saiful Hidayat were running for re-election to a second term. Basuki, who inherited his current position from his running mate Joko Widodo when he won the 2014 Indonesian presidential election, would have become the first elected Chinese-Christian governor of Jakarta had he won.

Murad Ismail is an Indonesian politician and policeman, who is serving as the current Governor of Maluku. Prior to becoming governor, Murad was a retired high-ranking National Police officer who became the Inspector General of the Police.
