The Miami Marlins' 2018 season was the 26th season for the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise in the National League and the seventh as the "Miami" Marlins. Don Mattingly was the manager of the Marlins for a third year. The Marlins played their home games at Marlins Park as members of the National League East. They failed to make the playoffs for the 15th consecutive season.
This year marked the first season under the new ownership group led by Derek Jeter and Bruce Sherman.
On October 2, 2017, following the conclusion of the 2017 season, the Marlins were officially sold to a group led by Derek Jeter and Bruce Sherman for $1.2 billion. [2] [3]
The deal that made Derek Jeter CEO of the Marlins was closed the day after the Marlins concluded the 2017 season. Jeter has roughly 4 percent stake in the ownership group, while Sherman has about 46 percent.
As CEO, Jeter plans to measure the success of the Marlins by more than just the score. Emphasis will be placed on the overall fan experience and embracing the culture in Miami.
On Dec. 7, 2017, the Marlins traded Dee Gordon and $1 million in international slot money to the Seattle Mariners for 3 minor leaguers. [4] Two days later, the Marlins traded Giancarlo Stanton and $30 million in contract relief to the New York Yankees for Starlin Castro and two minor leaguers. [5] The deal was made official on Dec. 11.
On Dec. 19, 2017, the Marlins traded Marcell Ozuna to the St. Louis Cardinals for two minor leaguers.
On Jan. 25, 2018, the Marlins traded Christian Yelich to the Milwaukee Brewers for Lewis Brinson and three other minor leaguers. [6]
On August 15, 2018 starting pitcher Jose Ureña intentionally hit Ronald Acuña with a 98 MPH fastball on the elbow resulting to an ejection and controversy of the situation with the benches clearing. [7] '

The Miami Marlins are an American professional baseball team based in Miami. The Marlins compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) East Division. The club's home ballpark is LoanDepot Park.
The 2003 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball's (MLB) 2003 season. The 99th edition of the World Series, it was a best-of-seven playoff between the National League (NL) champion Florida Marlins and the American League (AL) champion New York Yankees; the Marlins upset the heavily-favored Yankees, four games to two. The series was played from October 18 to 25, 2003. This is the most recent Series in which the losing team outscored the winning team; the Yankees lost, despite outscoring the Marlins 21–17 in the Series. This was the Marlins' second World Series championship win, having won their first in 1997. The Marlins would not return to the postseason until 2020.
The 1992 New York Yankees season was the 90th season for the Yankees, their 69th at Yankee Stadium and their first under manager Buck Showalter. The team looked to improve their standings from 1991 when they finished fifth in the American League East with a 71–91 record.
The 2000 New York Yankees season was the 98th season for the Yankees. New York was managed by Joe Torre. The team finished first in the American League East with a record of 87–74, 2.5 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox, after losing 15 of their final 18 games, including their last 7. Despite having the lowest winning percentage of any postseason qualifier in 2000, the Yankees won the World Series over the New York Mets in 5 games to win their 26th World Series title. They are, as of 2024, the last team to win World Series titles in consecutive years.
Giancarlo Cruz Michael Stanton, formerly known as Mike Stanton, is an American professional baseball designated hitter and outfielder for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has previously played in MLB for the Florida/Miami Marlins. Stanton stands 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) tall and weighs 245 pounds (111 kg). He bats and throws right-handed. Stanton is the Marlins' all-time home run leader and the only active player with over 400 home runs.
