The 2018 Cleveland Indians season was the 118th season for the franchise. It was the sixth season under the leadership of manager Terry Francona and third under general manager Mike Chernoff. The Indians played all of their home games at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. This was the last season in which the Indians logo Chief Wahoo was used on uniforms or on stadium signs. [1] [2] They won their third straight American League Central title before being swept by the defending World Series champion Houston Astros in the ALDS. Due to the Indians losing to the Astros, the Indians became the fifth team in MLB history to have a 70 year title drought.

The Seattle Mariners 2006 season was their 30th since the franchise creation, and their third consecutive season finishing at the bottom of the American League West, finishing with a 78–84 (.481) record.
The 1991 Cincinnati Reds season had the team defend their World Series championship, but the team would finish with a losing mark, regressing 17 games from the season before. Their winning percentage (.457) set a new record for worst among defending World Series champions, besting the previous mark set by the Chicago White Sox in 1918. This would be a record for seven years.
The 1920 Brooklyn Robins, also known as the Dodgers, won 16 of their final 18 games to pull away from a tight pennant race and earn a trip to their second World Series against the Cleveland Indians. They lost the series in seven games.The team featured four Hall of Famers: manager Wilbert Robinson, pitchers Burleigh Grimes and Rube Marquard, and outfielder Zack Wheat. Grimes anchored a pitching staff that allowed the fewest runs in the majors.

The 1999 Cleveland Indians are the only team in Major League Baseball since 1950 to score over 1,000 runs during the regular season. They were shut out only three times in 162 games. Five Indians scored at least 100 runs and four drove in at least 100 runs. Right fielder Manny Ramirez drove in 165 runs, the most by any MLB player since Jimmie Foxx in 1938.

Fausto Carmona represented the team at the 2010 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

During the 2013 season, the Reds returned to the playoffs for a second straight season, after a 97–65 season in 2012, in which they lost in 5 games in the NLDS. On September 23, due to the Washington Nationals' loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Reds clinched a spot in the post-season. They entered the playoffs as a Wild Card team, becoming the first team to qualify for the postseason after finishing third in their respective division. They lost in the NLWC Game to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Twins finished the 2018 season at 78–84, 13 games out of first place in a weak American League Central. The record led to the firing of manager Paul Molitor the day after the season ended. Also, this season would prove to be the 15th and final season for career Twin Joe Mauer, who retired following the season.
