The 2019 Minnesota Twins season was the 59th season for the Minnesota Twins franchise in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, their 10th season at Target Field and the 119th overall in the American League. It was the first year under new manager Rocco Baldelli who was hired on October 25, 2018 following the firing of previous manager Paul Molitor on October 2. It was also the first season since 2004 without longtime Twin Joe Mauer on the roster, as he announced his retirement on November 9, 2018 after 15 seasons. His number 7 was retired on June 15, 2019.
They improved upon their record from the previous season, and clinched the AL Central division for the first time since 2010 on September 25. On September 26, the Twins scored their 99th win with a victory over the Detroit Tigers, the highest number of wins for the franchise since 1965, and the third highest in franchise history. Despite winning 101 games (the second most since moving to Minnesota), the Twins were still the third seed in the American League, the best record ever for a third seed. With 307 home runs by their hitters, the Twins also set a new major league record for most home runs by a team in a season; tied by the 2023 Atlanta Braves. They opened the playoffs by playing the New York Yankees in the ALDS, however they were swept 3 games to 0 in a best-of-5 series, extending their record for the longest playoff losing streak in MLB history to 16 games.

The 2005 Minnesota Twins Season was the franchise's 45th season playing in the Twin Cities and the 105th season in its history. The team was managed by Ron Gardenhire in his fourth year as the Twins' manager. They played their home games in the Metrodome.
The 2007 Kansas City Royals season was the 39th season for the franchise, and their 37th at Kauffman Stadium. the season began with the team attempting to win the American League Central - a task not achieved since the division was formed in 1994.
The 1961 Minnesota Twins season was the 61st in franchise history and its first in Minneapolis–Saint Paul after it transferred from Washington following a six-decade tenure in late October 1960. The maiden edition of the Twins finished 1961 with a record of 70–90, good for seventh place in the American League, which had expanded from eight to ten teams during the 1960–61 offseason. The Twins played their home games at Metropolitan Stadium, where they set a franchise record for home attendance.
The 2009 Minnesota Twins season was the 49th season for the franchise in Minnesota, and the 109th overall in the American League. It was their final season at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome with their new stadium, Target Field, opening in 2010. They ended the regular season as American League Central champions after defeating the Detroit Tigers in a one game tie-breaker. They were then swept in the ALDS by the New York Yankees. The team's star catcher and Minnesota native Joe Mauer won the American League Most Valuable Player Award.
The Kansas City Royals' season of 2011 was the 43rd for the Royals franchise. It was the fifth full season with Dayton Moore as general manager. The team was managed by Ned Yost in his first full season with the Royals. It was the 26th straight year of the Royals missing the playoffs.
The 2015 Minnesota Twins season was the 55th season for the franchise in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, their sixth season at Target Field and the 115th overall in the American League. The team finished second in the American League Central with an 83–79 record, their best overall result since the 2010 season, which was the last year they made the playoffs. The team remained in the running for a wild card berth in the American League playoffs until losing Game 161. They would eventually win a wild card berth two years later, in 2017. In between, however, the team lost 103 games.
The 2016 Minnesota Twins season was the 56th season for the franchise in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, their seventh season at Target Field and the 116th overall in the American League. The 2016 season marked the 25th anniversary of the 1991 Twins World Series victory, and the 2016 team wore commemorative patches. The team finished in fifth place in the American League Central and lost 103 games, the worst record in the majors and the most losses since the franchise relocated to Minnesota in 1961.
The 2017 Minnesota Twins season was the 57th season for the franchise in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, their eighth season at Target Field and the 117th overall in the American League. The Twins began the season on April 3 at home against the Kansas City Royals and finished the year on October 1 at home against the Detroit Tigers.
The 2018 Texas Rangers season was the 58th of the Texas Rangers franchise overall, their 47th in Arlington as the Rangers, and their 25th season at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The Rangers began the season on March 29 against the Houston Astros and finished the season on September 30 against the Seattle Mariners.
The 2018 Seattle Mariners season was the 42nd season in franchise history. The Mariners played their 19th full season at Safeco Field, their home ballpark. After the Buffalo Bills of the NFL clinched a playoffs spot for the first time since 1999, The Mariners entered this season with the longest active playoff drought in the four major North American professional sports, failing to make their first postseason appearance since 2001. At several points in the season, the Mariners were 10 games ahead of the Oakland Athletics in the AL Wild Card race, but ended up finishing eight games behind them. The Mariners were eliminated from playoff contention on September 22 with the Athletics win against the Minnesota Twins. The Mariners began the season on March 29, 2018 against the Cleveland Indians and finished the season on September 30 against the Texas Rangers.
The 2018 Minnesota Twins season was the 58th season for the Minnesota Twins franchise in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, their ninth season at Target Field and the 118th overall in the American League. The Twins began the season on March 29 on the road against the Baltimore Orioles and ended the season at home against the Chicago White Sox. The Twins finished the 2018 season at 78–84, 13 games out of first place in a weak American League Central. The record led to the firing of manager Paul Molitor the day after the season ended. Also, this season would prove to be the 15th and final season for career Twin Joe Mauer, who retired following the season.
The 2019 Baltimore Orioles season was the 119th season in Baltimore Orioles franchise history, 66th in Baltimore, and the 28th at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The Orioles were managed by Brandon Hyde in his first season as Orioles manager. They finished 54–108, 7 games better than their disastrous 47–115 record from their 2018 season, but they missed the playoffs for a third straight season, as they were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention on August 23.
The 2019 Cleveland Indians season was the 119th season for the franchise. It was the seventh season under the leadership of manager Terry Francona and fourth under general manager Mike Chernoff. The Indians played their home games at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. In April 2019, the Indians extended Francona's contract for two more years. Although they improved upon their 91–71 campaign from the previous season, they failed to win the American League Central and failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
