The 2018 Minnesota Twins season was the 58th season for the Minnesota Twins franchise in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, their ninth season at Target Field and the 118th overall in the American League. The Twins began the season on March 29 on the road against the Baltimore Orioles and ended the season at home against the Chicago White Sox. [1] The Twins finished the 2018 season at 78–84, 13 games out of first place in a weak American League Central. The record led to the firing of manager Paul Molitor the day after the season ended. Also, this season would prove to be the 15th and final season for career Twin Joe Mauer, who retired following the season.

The 1988 Baltimore Orioles had the worst start to a season in modern American baseball history. The Orioles finished seventh in the American League East, reduced to a record of 54 wins and 107 losses just five seasons after winning the World Series. The season is most notable for the 0–21 start that lasted from April 4 to April 28. Manager Cal Ripken, Sr. was fired after an 0–6 start and replaced by Hall of Famer Frank Robinson. The Orioles won their first game of the year against the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park on April 29. The most runs allowed during the season was 15 in a game on June 19 while the most runs scored was 12 in a game on May 31. Orioles owner Edward Bennett Williams died in August of that year.
James Edward Dwyer is an American former baseball player who was an outfielder for 18 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for seven different teams between 1973 and 1990. Listed at 5' 10", 185 lb., he batted and threw left-handed.

He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox. He is also the first and only player to have hit two walk-off grand slams in the span of a single week.
The 2004 Montreal Expos season was the Expos′ 36th and final season in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The team finished in fifth and last place in the National League East at 67–95, 29 games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves. After the season, the team – which had played in Montreal since its foundation as an expansion franchise in 1969 – relocated to Washington, D.C., and became the Washington Nationals, as Major League Baseball returned to Washington for the 2005 season after a 33-season absence.
Francisco Miguel Lindor Serrano, nicknamed "Mr. Smile", is a Puerto Rican professional baseball shortstop for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB). The 2017 Minnesota Twins season was the 57th season for the franchise in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, their eighth season at Target Field and the 117th overall in the American League. The Twins began the season on April 3 at home against the Kansas City Royals and finished the year on October 1 at home against the Detroit Tigers.
The 2018 Texas Rangers season was the 58th of the Texas Rangers franchise overall, their 47th in Arlington as the Rangers, and their 25th season at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The Rangers began the season on March 29 against the Houston Astros and finished the season on September 30 against the Seattle Mariners.
The 2018 Baltimore Orioles season was the team's 118th season overall, 65th in Baltimore, and 27th at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. They attempted to rebound from their first losing season since 2011 when they went 75–87. However, the Orioles instead suffered one of the worst seasons in MLB history, going 47–115 and missing the playoffs for the second straight season. The Orioles set several statistical records and quirks, such as being 60 or more games behind the division champions Boston Red Sox, the most games behind a division champion since the 1935 Boston Braves, who themselves lost 115 games. They became the first team since the 2003 Detroit Tigers, who suffered a similar fate when they went 43–119, to have fewer than 50 wins in a full 162-game season. The Orioles held a losing record against all American League teams, ensured by their loss to the Houston Astros on September 28. First baseman Chris Davis posted a .168 batting average and a -2.7 WAR in his third year of a 7-year, $161 million contract, the worst of any player since Adam Dunn in 2011, who posted a -2.9 WAR and a .159 batting average.
The 2018 Philadelphia Phillies season was the 136th season in the history of the franchise, its 15th season at Citizens Bank Park, and the first season with manager Gabe Kapler. They improved from their 66–96 season in 2017 by posting an 80–82 record, but missed the postseason for the seventh consecutive season. Kapler had the second-most wins among Phillies managers historically after 100 games (56), and under Kapler, the 2018 team improved its end-of-season won-lost record by 14 games.
The 2019 Baltimore Orioles season was the 119th season in Baltimore Orioles franchise history, 66th in Baltimore, and the 28th at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The Orioles were managed by Brandon Hyde in his first season as Orioles manager. The 2019 season was the San Francisco Giants' 137th year in Major League Baseball and their 62nd year in San Francisco since their move from New York following the 1957 season. It was their 20th season at Oracle Park and the first under that name following the transfer of naming rights from AT&T. This season was the 13th and last for Bruce Bochy as manager of the Giants. It was the first season since at least 1901 that no Giants pitcher threw a 9 inning complete game. The Giants were officially eliminated from postseason contention for the third consecutive season after a loss to the Braves on September 20.

The team dramatically improved its winning percentage from the previous year and made the playoffs in the 60-game season. The Marlins became just the second team in MLB history to reach the postseason the season after losing at least 100 games, joining the 2017 Minnesota Twins. The Orioles pitching staff combined for a franchise-worst ERA of 5.84 and yielded 911 earned runs in the season, which led MLB and was the most earned runs surrendered by a pitching staff since the 2001 Texas Rangers allowed 913 earned runs. All of the team's pitchers that made a start finished the season with a losing record. The Orioles were eliminated from playoff contention on August 28 with their loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
