The 2018 Los Angeles Angels season was the 58th season of the Angels franchise and the 53rd in Anaheim (all of them at Angel Stadium). The Angels began the season on March 29 against the Oakland Athletics and ended the season on September 30 also against the A's. Manager Mike Scioscia retired at the end of the season. It was also two-way player Shohei Ohtani's first season with the club.
On December 9, 2017, the Angels signed RHP/OF Shohei Ohtani from Japan to a minor league contract with a $2.315 million signing bonus. He made the major league roster. [1] [2]
On December 13, 2017, the Angels traded minor leaguers Troy Montgomery and Wilkel Hernandez to the Detroit Tigers for 2B Ian Kinsler. Two days later, the Angels signed Zack Cozart to a three-year, $38 million contract. Cozart is expected to play third base. [3]
On February 21, 2018, the Angels acquired Jabari Blash from the New York Yankees in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. [4]

The 1980 Kansas City Royals season was their 12th in Major League Baseball. The Royals, under new manager Jim Frey, finished first in the American League West with a record of 97–65. Kansas City finally broke through in the postseason, sweeping the New York Yankees 3-0 in the 1980 American League Championship Series after falling to the Yankees in the ALCS in 1976, 1977 and 1978. The Royals lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 in the World Series.

Zachary Warren Cozart is an American former professional baseball shortstop. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Angels.

During the 2013 season, the Reds returned to the playoffs for a second straight season, after a 97–65 season in 2012, in which they lost in 5 games in the NLDS. On September 23, due to the Washington Nationals' loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Reds clinched a spot in the post-season. They entered the playoffs as a Wild Card team, becoming the first team to qualify for the postseason after finishing third in their respective division. They lost in the NLWC Game to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Shohei Ohtani is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher and designated hitter (DH) for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Nicknamed "Shotime", he has previously played in MLB for the Los Angeles Angels and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. Because of his elite contributions as a hitter and as a pitcher, a rarity as a two-way player, Ohtani's prime seasons have been considered among the greatest in baseball history, with some comparing them favorably to the early career of Babe Ruth.

Losses on the 7th and 8th resulted in a losing streak of fourteen in a row, setting a franchise record. After a brawl occurred during a game between the Seattle Mariners and Angels on June 26 that saw players and coaches receive suspensions, Bill Haselman and Ray Montgomery each served as interim managers to the interim manager when Nevin received a ten-game suspension. The Angels play as members of Major League Baseball's American League West division. On September 14, the Angels lost their 82nd game to clinch a losing season for the seventh straight season, tying the mark set by the 1971-1977 teams. With their loss to the Seattle Mariners on September 19, the Los Angeles Angels were officially eliminated from playoff contention.
