Kiki Bertens defeated Simona Halep in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2019 Madrid Open. She became the first player to win the title without losing a set en route.

Petra Kvitová was the defending champion, [1] but lost to Bertens in the quarterfinals in a rematch of the previous year's final.

Naomi Osaka, Halep and Angelique Kerber were in contention for the WTA no. 1 singles ranking at the beginning of the tournament. Osaka retained the ranking following Kerber's withdrawal in the second round, and Halep's subsequent defeat in the final. [2]

For the second time in her career, Bencic defeated four consecutive top-ten players en route to a Premier 5 title. This was her first WTA singles title since winning the Premier 5 Rogers Cup title in 2015, and lifted her back inside the top 25 in rankings for the first time in over two and a half years.

Bianca Andreescu defeated Angelique Kerber in the final, 6–4, 3–6, 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2019 Indian Wells Open. It was her first WTA Tour title, and Andreescu became the first wildcard champion in the tournament's history, as well as the youngest champion since Serena Williams in 1999. This marked the second consecutive year where a player won the tournament as her first WTA Tour singles title.

Ashleigh Barty defeated Karolína Plíšková in the final, 7–6(7–1), 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2019 Miami Open. It was Barty's first WTA Premier Mandatory title. She entered the top 10 in the WTA rankings for the first time with the win.

It was her first WTA 1000 singles title, and the 13 points Świątek lost in the championship match is the fewest on record in a WTA 1000-level final. This was the first WTA Tour singles final to be resolved with a 'double bagel' scoreline since Simona Halep defeated Anastasija Sevastova at the 2016 Bucharest Open, and was just the tenth such final in WTA Tour history. With the win, Świątek broke into the top 10 of the WTA rankings for the first time. Both finalists saved match points in prior rounds – Świątek saved two match points in her third round match against Barbora Krejčíková, whilst Plíšková saved three match points in her quarterfinal match against Jeļena Ostapenko.
