The 2020 European Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament for boxing at the 2020 Summer Olympics [2] began on 14 March 2020 at the Copper Box Arena in London. [3] On 16 March, the tournament was suspended and postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [4] It was to resume on 22 April 2021 and end on 26 April, [5] but after cases rose in the United Kingdom in January, it was moved from London and further postponed. The tournament later ran from 4 June to 8 June 2021 at Le Grand Dôme in Villebon-sur-Yvette, France. [6] [7] It was expected that spectators were not allowed to attend. [5]

Pete Sampras defeated Jim Courier in the final, 7–6(7–3), 7–6(8–6), 3–6, 6–3 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 1993 Wimbledon Championships. It was his second major title and the first of an eventual seven Wimbledon titles, an all-time record shared with William Renshaw until 2017 when Roger Federer won an eighth title.
Pat Cash defeated Ivan Lendl in the final, 7–6(7–5), 6–2, 7–5 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 1987 Wimbledon Championships. It was Lendl's second runner-up finish at Wimbledon, preventing him from completing the career Grand Slam; for the second year in a row, he was also attempting to complete the Channel Slam.
Three-time defending champion Martina Navratilova defeated Chris Evert Lloyd in a rematch of the previous year's final, 4–6, 6–3, 6–2 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 1985 Wimbledon Championships. It was her sixth Wimbledon singles title and twelfth major singles title overall. It marked Evert's seventh runner-up finish at Wimbledon, the joint-most at a major.
Spain's Rafael Nadal defeated Chile's Fernando González in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–2), 6–3 to win the gold medal in men's singles at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The win gave him the third of five components of the career Golden Slam, having already won the French Open and Wimbledon. González became the first man to win a medal in men's singles across consecutive Olympiads since Charles Winslow in 1920. In the bronze medal match, Serbia's Novak Djokovic defeated the United States' James Blake, 6–3, 7–6(7–4). It was Serbia's first Olympic tennis medal.
Petra Kvitová defeated Maria Sharapova in the final, 6–3, 6–4 to win the ladies' singles title at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships. It was her first major title. Kvitová became the first player born in the 1990s to win a major, the first Czech to win the title since Jana Novotná in 1998, and the first left-hander to win the title since Martina Navratilova in 1990.

Merven Clair is a Mauritian boxer. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's middleweight event, in which he was eliminated in the first round by Hosam Bakr Abdin. He also competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the welterweight class where he was also eliminated in the first round, that time by Kenya's Rayton Okwiri. At the 68th edition of the Strandja Memorial in February 2017, he placed third after a defeat in the semifinals to eventual tournament winner Pat McCormack. At the 2017 African Boxing Championships in Brazzaville, Clair secured a silver medal in the 69 kg weight class, suffering his only defeat of the tournament in the final against Muzamiru Kakande from Uganda. He won the gold medal at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco in the welterweight class by defeating the Nigerian boxer Abdulafeez Osoba in the final. At the 2020 African Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament, he was defeated in the quarterfinals by Stephen Zimba by referee stoppage in the second round.

Boxers aged between 17 and 18 as of 1 January 2013 were eligible to compete.

En route to his bronze medal, Carreño Busta defeated the world's top two ranked players – the ROC's Daniil Medvedev and Djokovic.
