The 2020 Montreal Alouettes season was scheduled to be the 54th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 66th overall.
The 2020 CFL season would have been the second season for Khari Jones as the Alouettes' head coach and offensive coordinator as he had the "interim" tag removed after he agreed to a three-year extension on November 26, 2019. [1] This also would have been his first full season, including pre-season, as the team's head coach. [2] It would have been the first season under the ownership of S and S Sportsco, which is operated by Sid Spiegel and Gary Stern. The new owners appointed Danny Maciocia as the team's general manager and named local media executive Mario Cecchini as the team's new president. [3]
Training camps, pre-season games, and regular season games were initially postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Montreal. The CFL announced on April 7, 2020 that the start of the 2020 season would not occur before July 2020. [4] On May 20, 2020, it was announced that the league would likely not begin regular season play prior to September 2020. [5] On August 17, 2020 however, the season was officially cancelled due to COVID-19. [6]
The 2020 CFL National Draft took place on April 30, 2020. [7] The Alouettes had ten selections in the eight-round draft, including four selections within the first 25 picks. [8] Notably, the Alouettes traded their first-round pick to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the trade for Johnny Manziel. [9]

The 2020 CFL Global Draft was scheduled to take place on April 16, 2020. [10] However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this draft and its accompanying combine were postponed to occur just before the start of training camp, which was ultimately cancelled. Danny Maciocia is the general manager of the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was previously head coach of the Université de Montréal Carabins football team. He is also the former general manager and director of football operations of the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos and former offensive coordinator with the André-Grasset Phénix, a CEGEP team in Montreal.
Khari Okang Jones is a former professional Canadian football player and was most recently the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was formerly the head coach for the Montreal Alouettes. He is also a former television sports reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Jones played quarterback in the CFL, where he enjoyed his most success with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Jones also played briefly for the Arena Football League's Albany Firebirds and the World League of American Football's Scottish Claymores. He has also been the offensive coordinator for the BC Lions and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Johnathan Paul Manziel, nicknamed "Johnny Football", is an American former football quarterback who played two seasons with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He also played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 2018, the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football (AAF) in 2019, and in Fan Controlled Football from 2021 to 2022.
Vernon Anthony Adams Jr. is an American professional Canadian football quarterback for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for the Eastern Washington Eagles and Oregon Ducks. He has also been a member of the Montreal Alouettes, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Saskatchewan Roughriders.

On July 21, 2020, the team officially retired the "Eskimos" name, and temporarily began using "Edmonton Football Team" and "EE Football Team" until a new name was decided.

This would have been the second season for the Tiger-Cats under co-general managers Drew Allemang and Shawn Burke and the second season under head coach Orlondo Steinauer.

The Blue Bombers would have entered the season as the defending Grey Cup champions for the first time in 29 years, having ended the franchise's lengthy drought with the previous year's championship win in the 107th Grey Cup game. This would have been the seventh season under head coach Mike O'Shea and the seventh full season under general manager Kyle Walters.

In a rematch of the previous season's game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the Tiger-Cats lost to the Blue Bombers 33–25 in overtime in the 108th Grey Cup game.

The Alouettes finished second in their division, an improvement on their third place finish in 2021 and qualified for the playoffs for the third consecutive season following the team's week 19 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks. However, after defeating the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Semi-Final, the team lost to the Toronto Argonauts in the East Final. The Alouettes held their training camp in Trois-Rivières at Stade Diablos.
