Dundalk Football Club is a professional association football club in Dundalk, Ireland. Dundalk compete in the League of Ireland Premier Division—the top tier of football in the Republic of Ireland—and are the highest-ranked Irish side in European football as measured by UEFA club coefficients. They are the second most successful club in the League's history, and the most successful in the Premier Division era. They have played at their present home ground, Oriel Park, since 1936.
The 2011 season was Dundalk's third successive season in the League of Ireland Premier Division following promotion in 2008. Altogether, it was the club's 85th season in League of Ireland football. The club was managed by Ian Foster, who was in his second season in charge. The club finished the 36-match season in 7th position having been challenging at the top of the table for the first half of the season. The President of Ireland's Cup, also known simply as the President's Cup, is an association football super cup featuring clubs from the Republic of Ireland football league system. It is a one-off match between the winners of the previous season's League of Ireland Premier Division and the FAI Cup, and similarly to the FA Community Shield in England, functions both as a domestic Super cup and a unofficial opener to the football season in Ireland. Because it is organised by the Football Association of Ireland, it is sometimes misleadingly referred to as the FAI President's Cup. However the president in the title refers to the President of Ireland and not the president of the FAI. The FAI has previously organised similar competitions, the Top Four Cup and the FAI Super Cup. A similarly named and formatted competition, the LFA President's Cup was organised by the Leinster Football Association.

The 2019 FAI Cup was the 99th edition of the annual Republic of Ireland's cup competition.Forty teams participated in the competition, including all teams from the Premier Division and First Division. The competition began on 19 April 2019 with the first of five rounds and ended on 3 November 2019 with the final at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, a nominally neutral venue, which has hosted the final since 2010.
Vinny Perth is an Irish football manager and former player who most recently was manager of Dundalk. He was confirmed as the new manager of Dundalk in January 2019, taking over from the departed Stephen Kenny. He had been Kenny's assistant at Dundalk since 2013.

The 2021 President's Cup was the seventh President's Cup contested for. The match was played on 12 March between the champions of the 2020 League of Ireland Premier Division and 2020 FAI Cup, Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk. The match finished 1–1 after 90 minutes and was decided by a penalty shootout which Dundalk won 4–3 with Albanian goalkeeper Alessio Abibi saving Roberto Lopes penalty to win the game for Dundalk on his competitive debut.
