The 2020 World Para Athletics European Championships is an upcoming track and field competition for athletes with a disability open to International Paralympic Committee (IPC) affiliated countries within Europe. [1] This will be the 7th edition of the event. [1] [2] This will also be the first time that the event is held in Poland. Around 600 athletes are expected to compete at the event. [3]

History

The event was originally scheduled to be held between 3 and 7 June 2020. On 26 March 2020, it was announced that the event would be postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, [3] and in June it was confirmed that the postponement would be until 2021. [4]

Venue

The venue for the event will be the Zdzisław Krzyszkowiak Stadium.

The 2020 Summer Paralympics are an upcoming major international multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities governed by the International Paralympic Committee. Scheduled as the 16th Summer Paralympic Games, they are scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan between 24 August and 5 September 2021. Originally due to take place between 25 August and 6 September 2020. On 24 March 2020, the IOC and the Tokyo Organizing Committee officially announced that the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics would be postponed to 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, marking the first time that the Paralympics has been postponed. They will still be publicly marketed as the 2020 Summer Paralympics, even with the change in scheduling to one year later. The new dates were later confirmed as 24 August to 5 September 2021.

Michael Roeger Australian Paralympic athlete

Michael Roeger is an Australian T46 athletics competitor. He competed at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Paralympics in athletics in middle distance running events. He has won one gold and three bronze medals at the IPC Athletics World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. He won the gold medal in the Men's T46 marathon at 2019 World Para Athletics Championships held as part of the London Marathon in a world record.

The World Para Athletics European Championships, known prior to 2018 as the IPC Athletics European Championships is an event organized by World Para Athletics, the international athletics federation established under the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in 2016. Athletes with a physical disability compete, and there is also a specific category for athletes with an intellectual disability. Organised biennially, the original Games ran from 2003-2005 as an Open Championship but the event was frozen in 2005, but returned in 2012 in Stadskanaal, Netherlands.

2015 IPC Athletics World Championships

The 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships were a Paralympic track and field meet organized by the World Para Athletics subcommittee of the International Paralympic Committee. The event was the 7th edition of what is now known as the World Para Athletics Championships, held from 21 to 31 October 2015 at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar. It featured 119 men's events and 91 women's events. The Marathon events which are traditionally part of the world championships were separated from the competition and instead held on 26 April as part of the London Marathon.

Brayden Davidson Australian Paralympic athlete

Brayden Duane Davidson is an Australian track and field para-athlete who competes mainly in the T36 classification events. He won a bronze medal at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships. At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, he won the gold medal in the Men's Long Jump T36.

James Turner (parathlete) Australian Paralympic athlete

James Michael Turner is an Australian Paralympic athlete and soccer player with cerebral palsy. He has represented Australia as part of the Australia Paralympic soccer team, the ParaRoos, and was its player of the year in 2013. At the 2016 Summer Paralympics, he won the Men's 800 m T36 in a world record time of 2:02.39. At the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London, England, he won three gold medals and followed this up with two gold medals at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai.

2019 World Para Athletics Championships

The 2019 World Para Athletics Championships was a Paralympic track and field event organised by the World Para Athletics subcommittee of the International Paralympic Committee. It was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 7 to 15 November 2019. It was the 9th edition of the event, formerly known as the IPC Athletics World Championship prior to 2017.

Table tennis at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan will take place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. There will be expected to be 280 qualified slots to compete in male and female events.

2019 World Para Swimming Championships Swimming competition

The 2019 World Para Swimming Championships is the 2019 edition of the World Para Swimming Championships run by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The championships were held from February to June in seven countries across five continents and served as a qualifying event for Paralympic swimming at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. The event was sponsored by Allianz.

Athletics at the 2020 Summer Paralympics were to be held at the Tokyo National Stadium between 25 August and 6 September. Following the COVID-19 pandemic they have been rescheduled to between 24 August and 5 September 2021.

Ihor Tsvietov Ukrainian Paralympic athlete

Ihor Tsvietov is a Ukrainian Paralympic athlete with cerebral palsy. He won two gold medals at the 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: in the men's 100 metres T35 event and in the men's 200 metres T35 event. He is scheduled to compete in these events at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.

Lucyna Kornobys is a Polish Paralympic athlete competing in discus throw, javelin throw and shot put events. She represented Poland at the 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and she won the silver medal in the women's shot put F34 event. She has qualified to represent Poland at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Zoia Ovsii is a Ukrainian Paralympic athlete. She represented Ukraine at the 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and she won two medals: the silver medal in the women's club throw F51 event and the bronze medal in the women's discus throw F52 event. She has qualified to represent Ukraine at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in both the discus throw and club throw events.

Renata Śliwińska is a Polish Paralympic athlete competing in F40-classification discus throw and shot put events. She represented Poland at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and she competed in both the women's discus throw F41 and women's shot put F40 events. In the women's discus throw event she set a new world record of 23.34. She has qualified to represent Poland at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in the women's shot put F40 event after finished 2nd in the women's shot put F40 event at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Rima Abdelli is a Tunisian Paralympic athlete of short stature and she competes in F40-classification events. She represented Tunisia at the 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and she won the silver medal in the women's shot put F40 event. In 2019, she qualified to represent Tunisia at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Fábio da Silva Bordignon Brazilian Paralympic athlete

Fábio da Silva Bordignon is a Brazilian Paralympic athlete competing in T35-classification events. In 2019 he qualified to represent Brazil at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Mauricio Valencia is a Colombian Paralympic athlete with cerebral palsy. He represented Colombia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, United Kingdom and at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In total he won two medals, both at the 2016 Summer Paralympics: the gold medal in the men's javelin throw F34 event and the bronze medal in the men's shot put F34 event.

Salum Ageze Kashafali is a visually impaired Norwegian Paralympic athlete. In June 2019 he set a new world record of 10.45s in the 100 metres T12 event at the Bislett Games held in Oslo, Norway.
