The 2021 FEI World Cup Finals for both dressage and show jumping were scheduled to be held between March 30 and April 4, 2021 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The event was to be held in the Scandinavium Arena and should have represented the conclusion of the 2020-21 Dressage and Show jumping World Cup Seasons. [1] [2]
The Finals got cancelled on March 12, due to the EHV-1 outbreak in Europe. [3]
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 FEI World Cup Finals in Las Vegas got cancelled on short notice. It was the first time that the FEI World Cup Finals got cancelled since their inclusion in 1978 for show jumping, and 1985 for dressage. [4]
The pandemic affected the 2020-21 World Cup Seasons in both dressage and jumping. Numerous qualifiers, including the complete Western European and North American jumping circuits, got scratched. This forced the FEI to introduce new qualifying procedures for the Finals in Gothenburg. [5] [6]
In February 2021, an outbreak of an aggressive strain of the neurological form of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) was reported in Valencia, Spain. This caused the International Equestrian Federation to cancel all competition on the European mainland through March 28. The outbreak put the 2021 FEI World Cup Finals under uncertainty, and the competition eventually got cancelled once the cancellation period got extended to April 11. [7]

For the show jumping, due to a number of cancelled qualifiers, most qualification spots for the Finals have been distributed to national federations (NFs) rather than specific athletes. National federations are tasked with the athlete selection. [9]

The International Federation for Equestrian Sports is the international governing body of equestrian sports. The FEI headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Debbie McDonald is an American dressage rider who has competed in the Olympics and many international competitions. She now lives in Hailey, Idaho, with her husband Bob, a hunter/jumper and trainer. Debbie trains and teaches riders on Peggy and E. Parry Thomas's River Grove Farm in Sun Valley, Idaho.
The FEI Show Jumping World Cup is an annual international competition among the world’s best show jumping horses and riders. The series, created in 1978, today comprises 14 leagues on all continents. The best riders from 132 preliminary competitions qualify for the final. The FEI World Cup was thought up by a Swiss journalist and show jumping enthusiast, Max E. Ammann. For 20 years, until 1999, both the final and qualifiers were sponsored by Volvo. From 1999 to 2013, the series has been sponsored by Rolex. Longines has been the title sponsor of the series since October 2013.
Equestrian competitions in all three disciplines at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics were held from 9 August to 21 August at the Hong Kong Sports Institute and Sheung Yue River in Hong Kong. Yvonne Losos de Muñiz is an Olympic athlete and international Grand Prix dressage rider. Born in Nigeria to Canadian parents, she represents the Dominican Republic internationally. She belongs to the elite Dominican Olympic athlete program CRESO.
Ingrid Klimke is a German eventing rider. She appeared at five Olympics from 2000 to 2016. With her horse Abraxxas, she won two gold medals in team eventing at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2012 Summer Olympics. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won a team silver with Hale-Bob.
Edward Gal is a Dutch dressage rider. He and the stallion Totilas, were triple gold medalists at the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games, becoming the first horse-rider partnership ever to sweep the three available dressage gold medals at a single FEI World Games. Going into the 2010 Games, they had amassed multiple world-record scores in international competition, leading one American journalist to call them "rock stars in the horse world". After the World Equestrian Games, Totilas was sold to German trainer Paul Schockemöhle. Gal continues to be successful training and competing dressage horses at the international level. Despite the success, he has been criticised to be harsh trainer who creates stressed and fearful horses.
The London International Horse Show, formerly the Olympia London International Horse Show, is one of the UK's biggest equestrian competitions. It is best known as the host of the UK legs of the FEI World Cup series in dressage, show jumping and driving, however it also has multiple other showjumping classes, as well as fun competitions such as a Shetland pony race and a dog agility competition. Many competitions are broadcast live by the BBC, and all are streamed. The show is held over six days during the week preceding Christmas, and typically involves over 400 horses and ponies.
Totilas, also known from 2006 to 2011 as Moorlands Totilas, and nicknamed "Toto", was a Dutch Warmblood stallion standing 17.1 hands high who was considered to be one of the most outstanding competitive dressage horses in the world, the first horse to score above 90 in dressage competition, and the former holder of the world record for the highest dressage score in Grand Prix Freestyle Dressage.
The 2011 FEI World Cup Finals in Leipzig, Germany were the Final of four World Cups in different Equestrian sports. They were held in the exhibition halls 1 and 3 at the new Leipzig Trade Fair from April 27 to May 1, 2011.
Charlotte Susan Jane Dujardin is a British dressage rider, equestrian, and writer. A multiple World and Olympic champion, Dujardin has been described as the dominant dressage rider of her era. She held the complete set of available individual elite dressage titles at one point: the individual Olympic freestyle, World freestyle and Grand Prix Special, World Cup individual dressage and European freestyle, and Grand Prix Special titles. Dujardin was the first rider to hold this complete set of titles at the same time.
The equestrian events at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo featured three disciplines for both individual and team competitions.
The individual eventing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics is scheduled to take place from 30 July to 2 August 2021 at the Baji Koen and Sea Forest Cross-Country Course. Like all other equestrian events, the eventing competition is open-gender, with both male and female athletes competing in the same division. 65 riders from 29 nations are expected to compete.
The team of the Olympic Federation of Ireland, which competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, represented athletes from both the Republic of Ireland and those from Northern Ireland who choose it instead of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the team's twenty-second appearance at the Summer Olympics, having attended every edition since 1924 except the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany.
Richard Rankin Fellers is an American former Olympic equestrian and horse trainer. In 2023 he pled guilty to sexually abusing one of his students when she was 17. According to the Washington County, Oregon district attorney, he will serve 30 months in state prison concurrently with a four year federal sentence.
Annabel Francis is a New Zealand show jumper who won the Show Jumping FEI World Cup competition in New Zealand in 2021.
The 2022 ECCO FEI World Championships were held in Herning, Denmark. It was the ninth edition of the Games, which are held every four years and run by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI). For team events in the dressage and show jumping disciplines, these Games were the first qualifying event for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Jumping Amsterdam is an international horse show held in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The show is held every year in January and one of the biggest international equestrian indoor events in The Netherlands. Jumping Amsterdam takes place at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre in the city center of the Dutch capital.
The Dutch Masters, formerly known as Indoor Brabant is an international horse show held in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. The show is held every year in March and one of the biggest international equestrian indoor events in The Netherlands, besides Jumping Amsterdam. Indoor Brabant-The Dutch Masters takes place in the Brabanthallen.
