Richard Antonio Carapaz Montenegro is an Ecuadorian professional road racing cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam EF Education–EasyPost. The 2021 season for Bora–Hansgrohe was its 12th season overall and its fifth season as a UCI WorldTeam. It was also the fifth season under the current name.

The 2021 season for the EF Education–Nippo team was its thirteen season as a UCI WorldTeam and its nineteenth overall. For this season, Japanese construction company Nippo Corporation, which had sponsored French UCI ProTeam Nippo–Delko–One Provence last season, joined the team as a co-title sponsor, as did several of the French team's riders.

The 2021 season for Team Qhubeka NextHash was its sixth season as a UCI WorldTeam and its 15th overall. After last year's title sponsor, Japanese telecommunications company NTT, decided not to renew their contract with the team, South African bicycle charity organization Qhubeka, a former title sponsor, and Swiss clothing brand Assos stepped up to sponsor the team for two seasons. However, before the new sponsors were announced, the sponsorship crisis led to many riders seeking contracts with teams elsewhere, resulting in the departure of 19 of the 29 riders on the team last season.

After just one year, British car manufacturer McLaren withdrew from its co-title sponsorship, citing a desire to "focus on motorsport after the uncertainty caused ... by the coronavirus pandemic." The team then took on the name of Victorious Stables, a horse racing stable owned by team owner Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, with the adjective serving as "a constant reminder of [the team's] goal to achieve success at the highest level both on and off the bike."

The 2021 season for UAE Team Emirates was the 23rd season in the team's existence and the fifth under the current name. The team has been a UCI WorldTeam since 2005, when the tier was first established.

The 2021 Giro d'Italia will be the 104th edition of the Giro d'Italia, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The Giro began in Torino with an individual time trial on 8 May, and Stage 12 occurred on 20 May with a stage from Siena. The race finished in Milano on 30 May.
