The 2019 Bronx Open was a professional tennis tournament played on hard courts. It was the 18th edition of the Bronx Open, and first edition as part of the WTA International tournaments of the 2019 WTA Tour. It took place at the Cary Leeds Center in Crotona Park in The Bronx, New York City, United States from 18 to 24 August 2019.

Bianca Andreescu won the women's singles tennis title at the 2019 Canadian Open after Serena Williams retired in the final due to back spasms, with the scoreline at 3–1. Andreescu became the first Canadian to win the event since Faye Urban in 1969.

The 2021 J&T Banka Ostrava Open was a WTA tournament organised for female professional tennis players on indoor hard courts. It was the 2nd edition of the event on the 2021 WTA Tour, primarily organised due to the cancellation of the Asian tournaments during the 2021 season, because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The event took place at the Ostrava Arena in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from 20 through 26 September 2021.

Paula Badosa defeated Barbora Krejčíková in the final, 6–3, 4–6, 7–6(7–4) to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2022 Sydney Tennis Classic. Krejčíková reached the final after having saved seven match points in her semifinal match against Anett Kontaveit.

Anett Kontaveit defeated Maria Sakkari in the final, 5–7, 7–6(7–4), 7–5 to win the singles title at the 2022 St. Petersburg Ladies' Trophy. Kontaveit's victory in the final was her 20th consecutive match win on indoor hard courts, dating back to the 2021 Ostrava Open; this is the longest such streak since Justine Henin won 22 matches on indoor courts between October 2007 and May 2010.

Iga Świątek defeated Anett Kontaveit in the final, 6–2, 6–0 to win the singles title at the 2022 WTA Qatar Open. This tournament marked the beginning of an eventual 37-match and six-title winning streak by Świątek.

Ons Jabeur defeated Jessica Pegula in the final, 7–5, 0–6, 6–2 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2022 Madrid Open. It was her first WTA 1000 title, and she became the first Arab and African woman to win a WTA 1000 title.

It was Kvitová's first WTA 1000 title since the 2018 Madrid Open, and her 30th career title overall; she also became the first Czech player to win the title. Rybakina was attempting to complete the Sunshine Double, having already won the title at Indian Wells.
