This was the second of the two tournaments that made up the 48th edition of the Charleston Open that featured featuring consecutive events, with the 2021 Charleston Open being the first. The second Charleston tournament was organised with a single-year license in 2021. [1]

Hailey Baptiste and Caty McNally won the title, defeating Ellen Perez and Storm Sanders in the final, 6–7(4–7), 6–4, [10–6]. This was Baptiste's first WTA doubles title.

Tímea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic defeated Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strýcová in the final, 6–2, 6–1 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2020 Australian Open. It was their second Australian Open title together. Despite the loss, Hsieh regained the WTA no. 1 doubles ranking for the first time since 2014, replacing her partner Strýcová. Mladenovic, Aryna Sabalenka and Xu Yifan were also in contention for the top ranking.

Dayana Yastremska was the defending champion, but withdrew before the tournament began.

Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu were the defending champions, but they chose not to participate this year.

Petra Martić was the defending champion, but she chose not to participate as she was still competing at the 2020 US Open.

Petra Kvitová defeated Garbiñe Muguruza in the final, 6–2, 6–1 to win the singles tennis title at the 2021 WTA Qatar Open. The final was a rematch of the 2018 final. It was Kvitová's second title at the WTA Qatar Open. Kvitová dropped just one set the entire tournament, to Anett Kontaveit in the quarterfinals.

The first 2021 Charleston Open tournament was a women's professional tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island in Charleston, South Carolina. It was the 49th playing of the event on the WTA Tour and was classified as a WTA 500 tournament on the 2021 WTA Tour. It was the first of two consecutive Charleston Opens in consecutive weeks on Daniel Island. The second Charleston Open was held the next week, and the twin Daniel Island events were the only events of the annual tour's clay court season to be played on green clay. The first tournament of the 2021 doubleheader was the last to be sponsored by Chinese automaker Geely, the owner of Volvo Cars.


The second 2021 Charleston Open was a tournament on the 2021 WTA Tour. Like the first played a week earlier, it was played on outdoor green clay courts in Daniel Island. The 50th playing of the Charleston Open, it was held one day after the 49th playing ended. It was a replacement tournament for other tournaments that were not held because of travel restrictions, and organised by Charleston Tennis with a single-year licence in 2021, held at Family Circle Tennis Center from April 12 to 18, 2021.

Veronika Kudermetova defeated Danka Kovinić in the final, 6–4, 6–2, to win the singles tennis title at the 2021 Charleston Open. Kudermetova did not drop a set en route to her first career Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles title.

Astra Sharma won her first WTA Tour singles title, defeating Ons Jabeur in the final of the second 2021 Charleston Open, 2–6, 7–5, 6–1.

Lyudmyla Kichenok and Makoto Ninomiya defeated Caroline Dolehide and Storm Sanders in the final, 6–4, 6–7(3–7), [10–8], to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2021 Nottingham Open. Though it was their first title together as a team, it marked Kichenok's fifth career doubles title on the WTA Tour and Ninomiya's third.

Liudmila Samsonova defeated Belinda Bencic in the final, 1–6, 6–1, 6–3, to win the singles tennis title at the 2021 WTA German Open. Samsonova was contesting her first career final on the WTA Tour and had entered the main draw as a qualifier. Her win made her the 10th maiden titlist on the 2021 WTA Tour and the second qualifier of the season to claim a title.

Samantha Stosur and Zhang Shuai defeated Coco Gauff and Caty McNally in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 6–3 to win the women's doubles title at the 2021 US Open. It was Stosur's fourth major title in women's doubles and eighth major overall, as well as Zhang's second major title; this was the team's second major title, following the 2019 Australian Open. This was the first major final for Gauff and for McNally.

Sloane Stephens defeated Marie Bouzková in the final, 7–5, 1–6, 6–2, to win the singles title at the 2022 Abierto Zapopan. It marked the first final and title for Stephens since 2018.

Iga Świątek defeated Naomi Osaka in the final, 6–4, 6–0 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2022 Miami Open. She became the fourth woman in history to complete the Sunshine Double in singles, having won Indian Wells two weeks earlier. It was Świątek's first Miami Open title, her third consecutive WTA 1000 title, and her fourth WTA 1000-level title overall. Świątek became the first woman in history to win the first three WTA 1000 titles of the year in succession, the first player since Serena Williams in 2013 to win three consecutive WTA 1000 titles, and extended her winning streak to 17 matches. She lost no sets and just 26 games en route to the title, the fewest since Martina Hingis dropped 21 games in 2000; she was the first player to win the title in Miami without dropping a set since Azarenka in 2016. Additionally, Iga Świątek won Miami Open 2022 exactly 10 years after a fellow Polish tennis player Agnieszka Radwańska, who won the tournament in 2012.

Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic defeated Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula in the final, 2–6, 6–3, 6–2 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2022 French Open. It was their second French Open title as a team. Mladenovic extended her winning streak at the event to 18 consecutive match wins and three titles, having last lost in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tournament.

Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula defeated Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez in the final, 6–4, 6–7(5–7), [10–5] to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2022 Canadian Open. With the win, Gauff gained the WTA No. 1 doubles ranking for the first time and became the second-youngest player in history to attain the No. 1 ranking, after Martina Hingis in 1997. Elise Mertens and Zhang Shuai were also in contention for the top ranking.

Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková defeated Caty McNally and Taylor Townsend in the final, 3–6, 7–5, 6–1 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2022 US Open. With the win, they became the first women's pair to complete the career Super Slam in doubles. It was their sixth major title together.

Storm Sanders and Luisa Stefani defeated Anna Danilina and Beatriz Haddad Maia in the final, 7–6(7–4), 6–7(2–7), [10–8] to win the doubles tennis title at the 2022 Guadalajara Open.
