The 2021 BAL season was the 1st season for the Rivers Hoopers of the Basketball Africa League. The team began the season on May 16, 2021, in the season opener against Rwanda's Patriots BBC.
Coming off a third Nigerian Premier League, the team of Ogoh Odaudu qualified for the inaugural BAL season. Ahead of the season, the Hoopers signed Ben Uzoh, [1] along with the American duo Chris Daniels and Taren Sullivan. [2] They also signed ex-NBA champion Festus Ezeli. [3] However, Ezeli got injured and had to miss the season. He was later replaced by Robinson Opong.
The Hoopers were allocated in Group A, but were unable to advance to the playoffs with their 1–2 record.

Carlos Edilson Alcântara Morais is an Angolan basketball player for the Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League. Standing at 1.93 m, he plays as shooting guard, or small forward.

He also played for several teams across North America, Europe, South America and Africa.
Ifeanyi Festus Ezeli-Ndulue is a Nigerian-American former professional basketball player. He previously played five seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Ezeli played college basketball at Vanderbilt before being selected with the 30th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors, where he won an NBA Championship in 2015. Ezeli last appeared in the 2016 NBA Finals and did not play basketball due to his knee surgery in the 2017 season, then coming back in 2021.
Marcus Christopher Crawford is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for US Monastir of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He played college basketball for the University of Memphis. Crawford has had an extensive career with teams in Europe and Africa. He is a two-time All-BAL First Team selection.
Robert Christopher Daniels is an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Texas A&M–Corpus Christi before starting his professional career in 2008.
Patriots Basketball Club, also known as Patriots, is a professional basketball club based in Kigali, Rwanda. Established in 2014, it plays its home games at Amahoro Indoor Stadium. The team is a four-time champion of the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL).
Robinson Odoch Opong is a Ugandan professional basketball player who last played for Rivers Hoopers of the Nigerian Premier League (NPL) and the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He also plays for the Uganda national basketball team.

The 2021 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 1, was the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established as a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA, the BAL is the highest tier continental league of Africa, replacing the FIBA Africa Basketball League. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BAL held its inaugural season one year later as planned, with the season beginning in 2021. Initially the league planned to play in six venues in six countries; however, due to the pandemic the season was held in a bio-secure bubble in Kigali, Rwanda. The season began on 16 May 2021 and ended on 30 May 2021.

The group phase was played in the Dakar Arena in Dakar and the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo. The playoffs and finals were played in the BK Arena in Kigali for a second year in a row.

The playoffs were played in the BK Arena in Kigali, which hosted the final stage for a third season in a row. The regular season was played in Dakar, Senegal and Cairo, Egypt, both venues hosted a conference for a second year in a row.

The 2024 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 4, will be the 4th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 9 March 2024 and will finish with the final on 1 June 2024, which will be played in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda for a fourth consecutive season.
