The 2022 Epsom Derby was the 243rd annual running of the Derby horse race which took place at Epsom Downs Racecourse on 4 June 2022. The race was sponsored for the second time by the online car-dealer Cazoo.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the first entries were closed in February 2022. [1]
The race was won by Desert Crown, owned by Suaeed Suhail, trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ridden by Richard Kingscote. It was Stoute's sixth win in the race and at 78 he became the oldest-known Derby-winning trainer. [2] Kingscote was winning the Derby for the first time, in his second ride in the race. [3]

Richard Kingscote is a British jockey who competes in flat racing. He won the 2022 Epsom Derby on Desert Crown.
Desert Crown was a British Thoroughbred racehorse. After winning his only race as a juvenile in 2021, he took the Dante Stakes on his three-year-old debut and then maintained his unbeaten record by winning the Epsom Derby. He ran only once more due to injury and was euthanised in October 2023 after failing to recover from a serious leg injury earlier that season.
Tuesday is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse. She finished second on her only run as a two-year-old and won a minor race on her three-year-old debut. She then emerged as a top-class performer, finishing third in the 1000 Guineas and second in the Irish 1000 Guineas before winning the Epsom Oaks and Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland in the US.
Westover is a retired British Thoroughbred racehorse. He showed promise as a two-year-old in 2021 when he won on his debut and then finished second in both the Haynes, Hanson and Clark Conditions Stakes and the Silver Tankard Stakes. In the following year he won the Sandown Classic Trial and ran third in the Epsom Derby before taking the Irish Derby by seven lengths. As a four-year-old he won the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud before sustaining a career-ending injury when he came second in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
