Seattle Rhyme was an American-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. He was one of the best two-year-olds in Britain in 1991 when he won three of his five races including the Stardom Stakes and the Racing Post Trophy and was regarded as a major contender for the following year's British Classic Races. He failed to win in a three-year-old season which was disrupted by injury but finished third in the International Stakes. He remained in training 1993 but never raced again and did not stand as a breeding stallion.

Assessor was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire best known for his performances over extended distances. After winning two minor races as a juvenile developed into a high-class stayer in 1992, recording wins in the Lingfield Derby Trial and Prix Royal-Oak. He reached his peak as a four-year-old in 1993 when he won the Yorkshire Cup, Doncaster Cup and Prix du Cadran. He suffered from training problems thereafter but recorded another big win when he took the St Leger Italiano in 1995. After his retirement from racing he became a successful sire of National Hunt horses.

The 1979 Epsom Derby was the 200th annual running of the Derby horse race. It took place at Epsom Downs Racecourse on 6 June 1979. With a prize of £153,980 to the winner, the race value was a significant increase on the £98,410 offered the previous year and a record for a race contested in Europe
