The 2022 Hy-Vee IndyCar Race Weekend was a pair of IndyCar motor races held on July 23, 2022 and July 24, 2022 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. They were the 11th and 12th rounds of the 2022 IndyCar season. The race weekend has been held since 2007 with a brief hiatus in 2021 after a change of focus by the owner of the track.

Contents

The first race (officially the Hy-VeeDeals.com 250 presented by DoorDash) was held on July 23, 2022. The race consisted of 250 laps and was won by Josef Newgarden.

The second race (officially the Hy-Vee Salute to Farmers 300 presented by Google) was held on July 24, 2022. The race consisted of 300 laps and was won by Patricio O'Ward.

Each race was accompanied with concerts before and after it with Tim McGraw and Florida Georgia Line on Saturday and Gwen Stefani, and Blake Shelton performing on Sunday. [1]

The first event was held in 2007. From 2007 to 2013, it was a 250-lap race; beginning in 2014, the race was increased to 300 laps. For 2020, the race reverted to 250 laps, with consecutive 250-lap races on Friday and Saturday night. After being left off of the calendar for 2021, it will returned to the 2022 schedule with the 250/300 format held in years previous.

The 2020 NTT IndyCar Series was the 25th season of the IndyCar Series and the 109th official championship season of American open wheel racing. The premier event was the 2020 Indianapolis 500. Josef Newgarden entered the season as the defending National Champion. Honda entered as defending Manufacturers' Cup champion for the second consecutive season. It was the first year under Penske management after they took over in late 2019.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2020 Iowa IndyCar 250s</span> Motor car race

The 2020 Iowa IndyCar 250s was an IndyCar Series event that took place from July 17–18, 2020. It made up the fifth and sixth rounds of the series' 2020 season. The race was originally scheduled as a single race for July 18 for 300 laps, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic an additional race had to be added due to cancellations of other races so IndyCar officials made the weekend a doubleheader & shortened each race to 250 laps. The race was also the second event of the 2020 season to allow spectators at the track, however there were restrictions regarding attendance.

The 2021 NTT IndyCar Series was the 26th season of the IndyCar Series and the 110th official championship season of American open wheel racing. The premier event was the 2021 Indianapolis 500, won by Hélio Castroneves. It was the second year under Penske management after they took over in late 2019. Scott Dixon entered his 21st season competing for a National Championship as the defending champion, but ultimately finished the campaign in fourth place.

The 2021 Big Machine Music City Grand Prix was an IndyCar motor race held on August 8, 2021 at the Nashville Street Circuit in Nashville, Tennessee. It was the eleventh round of the 2021 IndyCar Series and the first ever edition of the Music City Grand Prix.

The 2022 Indianapolis 500 was a 500-mile race in the 2022 IndyCar Series, held on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana. The month of May activities formally began on May 14 with the GMR Grand Prix on the combined road course. Practice on the oval opened on May 17, and time trials took place on May 21–22. Carb Day, the traditional final day of practice, along with the Pit Stop Challenge, took place on May 27.

The 2021 Big Machine Spiked Coolers Grand Prix was an IndyCar motor race held on August 14, 2021 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. It was the 12th round of the 2021 IndyCar Series. This was also the first meeting at the Speedway since the death of Bob Jenkins. Indianapolis area resident and well-known motorsport broadcaster Jamie Little replaced Jenkins, sharing public address duties with Allen Bestwick. Dave Calabro, who shares duties with Bestwick, does not work the Verizon 200 meeting.

The 2022 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg was an IndyCar motor race held on February 27, 2022 at the Streets of St. Petersburg in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was the season opener of the 2022 IndyCar Series. The race lasted for 100 laps.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2021 Honda Indy 200</span> Motor car race

The 2021 Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio was an IndyCar Series event held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. The race served as the 10th round of the 2021 IndyCar Series season. Josef Newgarden won the race from pole position, leading all but 7 laps. The victory ended Team Penske's longest winless streak to start a season since 1999.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2022 GMR Grand Prix</span> Indycar race held in Speedway, Indiana

The 2022 GMR Grand Prix was the fifth round of the 2022 IndyCar season. The race was held on May 14, 2022, in Speedway, Indiana at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race was originally scheduled for 85 laps, but under INDYCAR rules, the race was declared a wet race at the start, meaning the race was limited to two hours.

The 2022 Big Machine Music City Grand Prix was the fourteenth round of the 2022 IndyCar season. The race was held on August 7, 2022, in Nashville, Tennessee at the Nashville Street Circuit. The race consisted of 80 laps and was won by Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing.
