The 2022 Next Generation ATP Finals (also known as the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals for sponsorship reasons) was a men's exhibition tennis tournament for the eight highest-ranked singles players on the 2022 ATP Tour who are aged 21 and under. It was held from 8 to 12 November 2022 at the Allianz Cloud Arena in Milan, Italy.

Brandon Nakashima defeated Jiří Lehečka in the final, 4–3(7–5), 4–3(8–6), 4–2, to win the title. [1] Nakashima became the first player to win the exhibition on his second appearance.

Carlos Alcaraz was the reigning champion, [2] but withdrew from the event before competition began. [3]

Qualification

The top eight players in the 2022 ATP Race to Milan will qualify. Eligible players must be 21 or under at the end of the calendar year.

The Next Generation ATP Finals is an annual men's professional exhibition tennis tournament organized by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for the best 21-and-under players of the season. The event debuted in 2017 at the PalaLido in Milan, where it was also staged for the next four editions, before it was moved to King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, beginning in 2023.

Holger Vitus Nødskov Rune is a Danish professional tennis player. He has been ranked as high as world No. 4 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), making him the highest-ranked male Danish player in the history of the ATP rankings.Rune has won four ATP Tour singles titles, including a Masters 1000 title at the 2022 Paris Masters, and produced his best Grand Slam performance at the 2022 French Open by reaching the quarterfinals in his main draw debut at the tournament. As a junior, Rune was ranked as high as world No. 1 and won ten titles on the ITF Junior Circuit, including the 2019 French Open boys' title. Tseng Chun-hsin was the defending champion, but participated at the men's singles qualifying as a wild card, who lost to Tommy Paul in the first round.

The 2021 Next Generation ATP Finals was a men's exhibition tennis tournament for the best singles players on the 2021 ATP Tour who were age 21 and under. It ran from 9 to 13 November 2021 in Milan, Italy at the PalaLido and was the fourth edition of the event.

Defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–3) to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters. He became the sixth player to win consecutive titles at the Monte-Carlo Masters in the Open Era. The win also earned him his second Masters 1000 title and his eighth career singles title overall.

Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final, 6–0, 7–6(7–5) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2022 Italian Open. It was his sixth Italian Open title and record-extending 38th Masters 1000 title overall. Djokovic did not lose a set during the tournament, and won his 1000th ATP Tour-level career match against Casper Ruud in the semifinals.

Matteo Arnaldi is an Italian professional tennis player. He won the Davis Cup in 2023 with Italy. Arnaldi has a career high ATP singles ranking of world No. 41, achieved on 30 October 2023, and a career high doubles ranking of world No. 286, achieved on 8 August 2022.

Taylor Fritz defeated Maxime Cressy in the final, 6–2, 6–7(4–7), 7–6(7–4) to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2022 Eastbourne International.

The 2023 Daniil Medvedev tennis season officially began on 1 January 2023, with the start of the Adelaide International.

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jan-Lennard Struff in the final, 6–4, 3–6, 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2023 Madrid Open. It was his fourth Masters 1000 title. Struff was the first lucky loser to reach a Masters final.

Daniil Medvedev defeated Holger Rune in the final, 7–5, 7–5 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2023 Italian Open. It was his fifth title of 2023, sixth career Masters 1000 title, and first ATP Tour title on clay. Before 2023, Medvedev had never won a match at the Italian Open in three previous appearances.
