It was his sixth Italian Open title and record-extending 38th Masters 1000 title overall. Djokovic did not lose a set during the tournament, and won his 1000th tour-level career match by reaching the final. It was the first title he won in 2022.

The 2022 Geneva Open is a men's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It is the 19th edition of the Geneva Open and part of the ATP Tour 250 series of the 2022 ATP Tour. It takes place at the Tennis Club de Genève in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 15 through May 21, 2022.
