Lloyd Glasspool (born 19 November 1993) is a British professional tennis player who specialises in doubles. He has a career-high doubles ranking of No. 7 (June 2023) and a career-high singles ranking of No. 282 (July 2016). In his career, Glasspool has won four ATP and five ATP Challenger doubles titles and 16 Futures titles (eleven in doubles and five in singles).

Career

Glasspool studied at the University of Texas at Austin, where partnering Søren Hess-Olesen he captured the 2015 NCAA doubles championship. [1]

2016: ATP debut

Glasspool made his ATP Tour debut (in doubles) at the 2016 Wimbledon Championships having been given a wildcard to partner compatriot Dan Evans in the main draw. [2]

2021: Partnership with Heliövaara, Maiden title, Wimbledon third round

Partnering Harri Heliövaara, Glasspool won his first ATP Tour title at the 2021 Open 13 against Sander Arends and David Pel of the Netherlands in March.

2022: Two Major quarterfinals & ATP Finals semifinal, ATP 500 title, top 15

In May 2022, on their debut at the Italian Open, Glasspool and Heliövaara reached their first quarterfinal at a Masters 1000 level as alternates, defeating top seeds, world No. 1, Joe Salisbury, and world No. 2, Rajeev Ram, en route, [3] marking their first win at this level. [4]

At the French Open, he reached a major quarterfinal for the first time in his career with Heliövaara. As a result he moved into the top 50, at world No. 49 on 13 June 2022. The pair continued with their successful season reaching their first final on grass at the Queen's Club. Next they advanced to the third round at Wimbledon for the second consecutive year. [5]

They won the biggest title at the ATP 500 European Open defeating Matwe Middelkoop and Rohan Bopanna. [6] At the 2022 Croatia Open Umag they reached the semifinals defeating wildcards Mili Poljicak and Nino Serdarusic. [7] Next they defeated second seeds Rafael Matos and David Vega Hernandez to reach their fifth final of the season. [8]

At the 2022 National Bank Open the pair reached a second Masters quarterfinal for the season where they lost to third seeds Koolhof/Skupski. [9] He reached the top 30 on 22 August 2022 at No. 28.

Seeded 11th at the US Open they reached their second quarterfinal and first at this Major defeating 8th seeded pair of Kyrgios/Kokkinakis. [10] The pair reached their sixth final of the season at the 2022 Moselle Open. [11] As a result Glasspool reached the top 20 in the rankings on 26 September 2022.

On 4 November the pair qualified for their first 2022 ATP Finals after reaching their first Masters semifinal in Paris and Glasspool moved into the top 15. [12] They qualified for the semifinals defeating Arévalo/Rojer and Granollers/Zeballos both matches in straight sets. [13]

2023: Third title, Tenth final, Three Masters quarterfinals, World No. 7

He won his third title with his partner Heliövaara in Adelaide. [14] He also reached his tenth final in Dubai with Heliövaara. [15] He made his top 10 debut following the Rome Masters after winning the 2023 BNP Paribas Primrose Bordeaux Challenger 175 with Heliövaara. [16]

2024: New partnership with Rojer, fourth title

For the 2024 season, Glasspool partnered with Jean-Julien Rojer and the pair won their first title at the 2024 Brisbane International.

Personal life

From 2016 to 2018 Glasspool was in a relationship with fellow tennis professional Heather Watson. [17]

He is the younger brother of former Hollyoaks actor Parry Glasspool.

Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić defeated Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the final, 6–4, 7–6(7–5), 2–6, 7–5 to win the gentlemen's doubles title at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. It was their eighth title of the season, with Mektić winning his maiden major doubles title and Pavić winning his third. They became the first Croatian pair to win the title.

Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić defeated Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliövaara in the final, 3–6, 7–6(7–3), [10–6] to win the doubles tennis title at the 2022 Queen's Club Championships. It was their third ATP Tour doubles title of the season and their 12th title overall together.

Defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury defeated Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski in the final, 7–6(7–4), 7–5 to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2022 US Open. They became the second team in the Open Era to defend the US Open title, after Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde in 1996. It was both men's fifth major title.

Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski defeated Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek in the final, 7–6(7–5), 6–4 to win the doubles tennis title at the 2022 Paris Masters. With the win, they secured the year-end No. 1 team ranking.

Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliövaara defeated Jamie Murray and Michael Venus in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–3) to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2023 Adelaide International 1.

Marcelo Arévalo and Jean-Julien Rojer won the men's doubles tennis title at the 2023 Adelaide International 2 after Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek withdrew from the final due to Dodig's injury. Arévalo and Rojer received walkovers in the last two rounds.

Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler defeated Hugo Nys and Jan Zieliński in the final, 6–4, 7–6(7–4) to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2023 Australian Open. Awarded a wildcard into the tournament, Hijikata and Kubler saved a match point en route to the title, in their third round match against Tomislav Brkić and Gonzalo Escobar. Nys became the first ever Monegasque player to reach the semifinal and final of a major.

Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden defeated Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski in the final, 6–3, 2–6, [10–8], to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters. At the age of 43, Bopanna overtook Daniel Nestor to become the oldest ATP Masters 1000 finalist and champion, winning his fifth Masters 1000 title and 24th career ATP Tour doubles title overall. It was Ebden's first Masters 1000 title and ninth career doubles title.

Santiago González and Édouard Roger-Vasselin defeated Austin Krajicek and Nicolas Mahut in the final, 7–6(7–4), 7–5 to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2023 Miami Open.

Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek defeated Romain Arneodo and Sam Weissborn in the final, 6–0, 4–6, [14–12] to win the doubles tennis title at the 2023 Monte Carlo Masters. The pair saved two championship points en route to the title and earned Dodig his sixth ATP Masters 1000 title, Krajicek his first, and the duo their fifth career title together. Arneodo was contending to become the first Monegasque champion of the tournament in the Open Era.

Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev defeated Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden in the final, 6–3, 3–6, [10–3] to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2023 Madrid Open. It was both players' first Masters title in doubles.

Hugo Nys and Jan Zieliński defeated Robin Haase and Botic van de Zandschulp in the final, 7–5, 6–1 to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2023 Italian Open.
