This article lists the professional tennis players who reached the highest ranking among their compatriots during the Open Era. The rankings used are ATP rankings for men (since 23 August 1973 for singles, and 1 March 1976 for doubles) and WTA rankings for women (since 3 November 1975 for singles, and 4 September 1984 for doubles).
On 11 September 2017, Garbiñe Muguruza and Rafael Nadal made Spain the first country since the United States 14 years ago to simultaneously top both the ATP and the WTA rankings, with Muguruza making her debut in the No. 1 spot. The most recent previous such pair were Serena Williams and Andre Agassi, 28 April to 11 May 2003. [1]

Magdalena Georgieva Maleeva is a Bulgarian former professional tennis player. Her best WTA singles ranking was world No. 4. She played on the WTA Tour competing in singles and doubles, from April 1989 to October 2005 and has won ten career singles titles.
This is a list of the tournaments played in the 2005 season of Men's tennis, including ATP events and ITF events. Changes were made to match format during this season. The third set of doubles matches was no longer played as a traditional set. Instead it was played as a match tie break first to 10 and clear by 2, to decide the winner.
Feliciano López Díaz-Guerra is a Spanish former professional tennis player. He achieved his career-high singles ranking of world No. 12 in March 2015 and doubles ranking of world No. 9 in November 2016.
Gilles Müller is a Luxembourgish former professional tennis player. He is a two-time major singles quarterfinalist, making him by far the most successful male tennis player in Luxembourgish history. Müller won two titles on the ATP Tour and achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 21 on 31 July 2017. He was known for his powerful left-handed serve and net skills. Following his retirement, Müller was appointed as Luxembourg's Davis Cup team captain.
Raemon Sluiter is a Dutch former professional tennis player and current coach. His career-high ATP singles ranking is World No. 46, achieved in February 2003. Though he achieved only limited success during his professional career, Sluiter reached four ATP finals in his native Netherlands, and also reached the semi-finals of the Davis Cup with the Dutch team in 2001.
Barbara Schett Eagle is an Austrian former professional tennis player, who reached her highest singles ranking of world No. 7 in September 1999. Between 1993 and 2004 she played in 48 matches for the Austria Fed Cup team, winning 30. She also represented Austria at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in singles and doubles, reaching the quarterfinals of the singles event. She retired after the 2005 Australian Open and now works for Eurosport as a commentator and presenter.
Sandrine Testud is a former professional tennis player from France.
Manon Maria Bollegraf is a former professional tennis player from the Netherlands, who was a quarterfinalist at the singles event of the 1992 French Open, a finalist in doubles at the 1997 Wimbledon Championships, and a four-time mixed doubles Grand Slam champion. She also finished fourth in women's doubles at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
Lori McNeil is an American tennis coach and former top 10 player. McNeil was a singles semifinalist at the US Open in 1987 and Wimbledon in 1994, a women's doubles finalist at the Australian Open in 1987 with Zina Garrison and French Open mixed-doubles winner in 1988 with Jorge Lozano.
Lucie Hradecká is a Czech former professional tennis player. A three-time Grand Slam doubles champion and 26-time WTA Tour doubles titlist, she reached her career-high doubles ranking of world No. 4 in October 2012. She was also an integral member of the Czech Republic's national team and helped her country to win five titles at the Fed Cup between 2011 and 2016, in addition to winning two Olympic medals in both women's doubles with Andrea Sestini Hlaváčková in 2012 and in mixed doubles with Radek Štěpánek in 2016. Hradecká also reached the top 45 in singles and was a finalist in seven tour-level singles tournaments. She announced her retirement from the sport at the end of the 2022 season.
Lyudmyla Viktorivna Kichenok is a Ukrainian professional tennis player. She has been ranked as high as world No. 3 in doubles. She is a two-time Grand Slam champion winning the 2024 US Open with Jeļena Ostapenko and the 2023 Wimbledon Championships with Mate Pavić becoming the first Ukrainian to do so.

Miriam Škoch is a Czech professional tennis player who has specialized in doubles. On 16 May 2022, she reached her best singles ranking of world No. 247. On 11 September 2023, she peaked at No. 41 in the WTA doubles rankings. Škoch has won one doubles title on the WTA Tour and one doubles title on the WTA Challenger Tour. She has also won seven singles and 18 doubles titles on the ITF Circuit.
Martina Trevisan is an Italian professional tennis player. She has a career-high singles ranking of No. 18 by the WTA, achieved in May 2023, and a best doubles ranking of No. 138. For Italy, she was finalist in the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup and won the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup.
Desirae Marie Krawczyk is an American professional tennis player who specializes in doubles. She has a career-high doubles ranking of World No. 7, achieved on 19 August 2024, and has won eleven doubles titles on the WTA Tour, including the WTA 1000 2024 National Bank Open in Canada.
Jule Niemeier is a German professional tennis player. She has a career-high WTA singles ranking of world No. 61, achieved on 7 November 2022. She is currently the No. 1 German player.
Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final, 7–5, 6–3, 5–7, 4–6, 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2019 US Open. It was his fourth and final US Open title and 19th major title overall. Nadal's victory meant that every major title since the beginning of 2017 had been won by either himself (5), Novak Djokovic (4) or Roger Federer (3). This was the first time since 2006–08 that Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal had claimed all four major singles titles in three consecutive years.
Daria Serhiivna Snigur is a Ukrainian professional tennis player. She has a career-high WTA ranking of world No. 105 in singles, achieved on 14 November 2022. Snigur has won seven singles titles at tournaments of the ITF Women's Circuit.
Bart Stevens is a Dutch tennis player who specializes in doubles. He reached his career-high ATP doubles ranking of world No. 69 on 20 November 2023. Stevens also has a career high singles ranking of No. 736 achieved on 14 October 2019.
