The Wildcats finished the 2021 NCAA Division I baseball season 15–21 overall (15–21 conference) and tenth place in conference standings, as the season was limited to only conference games for all Big Ten teams due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Preseason
On May 31, 2021, Spencer Allen resigned as the head coach of Northwestern.[2] That same day, Wildcats pitching coach, Josh Reynolds was named the interim head coach for the 2022 season.[3] On August 2, 2021, Reynolds added his former head coach, Brad Hill to his coaching staff.[4] On August 19, 2021, Reynolds finished his coaching staff, naming Jimmy Frankos as his volunteer assistant.[5]

Chris Thomsen is an American football coach. He is the tight ends coach at Florida State University. Thomsen was the head coach of the Wildcats football program at Abilene Christian University (ACU), from 2005 through 2011. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the South region. They defeated Delaware, Ohio State, Michigan, and Houston to advance to the Final Four. There they lost to eventual national champion Kansas.

Joshua George Reynolds is a baseball coach and former pitcher, who is the current pitching coach for the Cincinnati Bearcats. He played college baseball at Central Missouri from 1998 to 2000, before playing professionally from 2000–2003. He then served as the head coach of the Northwestern Wildcats (2022).

They were led by 10th-year head coach Chris Collins. The Wildcats played their home games at Welsh–Ryan Arena in Evanston, Illinois as members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 21–10, 12–8 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for 2nd place, their highest finish since the 1958–59 season. This season was also notable as the first time Northwestern defeated a number-one ranked opponent, during a home game against Purdue on February 12. As the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten tournament, they were upset in the quarterfinals by No. 10 seed Penn State. The Wildcats received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, their second-ever appearance, where they named as the No. 7 seed in the West Region. The Wildcats defeated Boise State in the first round before falling to UCLA in the second round, closing their season with an overall record of 22–12.
The 2023 Northwestern Wildcats football team represented Northwestern University in the West Division of the Big Ten Conference during the 2023 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by first-year head coach David Braun and played their home games at Ryan Field in Evanston, Illinois. Braun began the season as interim head coach and was elevated to permanent head coach on November 15 following the team's 24–10 road win over Wisconsin.
