On 1 November 2023, an air ambulance Learjet 35A crashed at the Cuernavaca Airport in Mexico after a runway excursion on runway 20, killing all four people on board. [1] The aircraft was destroyed instantly after it crashed into the ground and caught fire, causing it to explode.
The aircraft involved was a Learjet 35A manufactured in 1980 in Mexico registered as XA-IRE with serial number 35A-354. It was a business jet being operated as an air ambulance by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance. [2] [3]
The passengers and crew on the flight consisted of two pilots, a co-pilot and a pilot as well as two passengers, a doctor and a paramedic. [4] The number of people on board the plane was incorrectly announced as five crew. [5] The victims wereidentified as pilot Gerardo Álvarez, co-pilot Roberto Manzano, doctor Lilian Reséndiz and paramedic Mario León. [6]
On 1 November 2023, the aircraft touched down and was landing on runway 20. The crew of the aircraft initiated the breaking procedures but the plane could not stop, causing it to overrun runway 20 causing it to go into a steep embankment. The aircraft crashed into bushes on a hill in a wooded, mountainous area [7] at 2:15 p.m. local time, causing the plane to catch fire and explode multiple times, burning and killing all four people on board the plane. The crash was not reported until 2:19 p.m. local time and rescue teams arrived 20 minutes after the crash. [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14]

Cubana de Aviación Flight 972 was a scheduled domestic flight operated by Mexican charter airline Global Air on behalf of Cubana de Aviación, from José Martí International Airport, Havana, Cuba, to Frank País Airport in Holguín, Cuba. On 18 May 2018, the 39-year-old Boeing 737-201 Adv. operating the route crashed shortly after takeoff, near Santiago de las Vegas, 19 kilometres from Havana city centre. Of those on board, 112 died and one passenger survived with critical injuries. There were initially four survivors, but three of them later died at a local hospital. Most of the passengers on board were Cuban nationals, although the crew was entirely Mexican.
Aeroméxico Connect Flight 2431 (SLI2431/5D2431) was a Mexican domestic scheduled passenger flight bound for Mexico City that crashed on takeoff from Durango International Airport on July 31, 2018. Shortly after becoming airborne, the plane encountered sudden wind shear caused by a microburst. The plane rapidly lost speed and altitude and impacted the runway, detaching the engines and skidding to a halt about 1,000 feet (300 m) beyond the runway. The plane caught fire and was destroyed. All 103 people on board survived, but 39 passengers and crew members were injured.
