The 2024 MLS Re-Entry Draft is conducted in two stages, as it has been in previous years. Stage 1 took place on December 13, 2024, and Stage 2 takes place on December 19, 2024. All 30 existing Major League Soccer club will take part of the 2024 MLS Re-Entry Draft. The draft order was set in reverse order of the 2024 Major League Soccer season standing after completion of the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs. [1]
Players 22 years of age or older, with one year in the MLS, who do not have a current contract or Bona Fide Offer are eligible for the 2024 MLS Re-Entry Draft. Players may opt out of the draft by submitting a written notice to the league. If a player opts out the club will maintain Right to First Refusal and must have players consent to trade the player. [1]
If a club chooses a player in stage 1 of the Re-Entry draft, that club must either exercise an option for that player or extend them a Bona Fide offer. Clubs may not select any player from their own club who are eligible to be part of the Re-Entry draft. If a player is selected in the Re-Entry draft, and they have a current option on their contract, they will be automatically added to the drafting club's roster. If a club makes a Bona Fide Offer, and the selected player rejects the offer, the drafting club maintains the Right to First Refusal for that player in Major League Soccer. [1]
Any player not selected by a team in Stage 1 of the Re-Entry draft are available in Stage 2. If a club selects a player in Stage 2 they have seven days to make an offer to the player. If the club and player cannot reach an agreement, the club retains the Right to First Refusal in Major League Soccer. In Stage 2, clubs may not select their own players until all other clubs decline to select player. [1]

The two-stage 2010 MLS Re-Entry Draft took place on December 8, 2010 and December 15, 2010. The Stage 1 Draft of the Re-Entry Process took place on Wednesday, December 8, at 2 p.m. ET via teleconference. The Stage 2 Draft took place on Wednesday, December 15, at 2 p.m. ET. All 18 clubs had a representative participate.
The MLS Re-Entry Draft is an annual event in which Major League Soccer teams select players who are out of contract or have had their options declined by their current teams. Although the single-entity league does not have true free agency, the re-entry draft was created to provide an outlet of internal movement for veteran players.
The two-stage 2011 MLS Re-Entry Draft took place on December 5, 2011 and December 12, 2011. All 19 Major League Soccer clubs participated.

All 28 existing Major League Soccer club and its newest expansion club St. Louis City SC took place in the 2022 MLS Re-Entry Draft. The draft order was set in reverse order of the 2022 Major League Soccer season standing after completion of the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs. Because St. Louis City SC did not participate in the 2022 MLS season, they would have the last position in the 2022 MLS Re-Entry Draft. Teams have the option to decline a selection throughout the draft.
The 2023 MLS Re-Entry Draft is conducted in two stages, as it has been in previous years. Stage 1 takes place on December 14, 2023, and Stage 2 takes place on December 21, 2023. All 29 existing Major League Soccer club will take part of the 2023 MLS Re-Entry Draft. The draft order was set in reverse order of the 2023 Major League Soccer season standing after completion of the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs.
The 2024 MLS Expansion Draft was a special draft for the Major League Soccer expansion team San Diego FC that was held on December 11, 2024. The list of eligible players was revealed on December 10, 2024, which included 354 players from the 29 other MLS teams. San Diego FC selected five players in the draft.
