Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektić defeated Máximo González and Andrés Molteni in the final, 6–4, 6–4 to win the doubles title at the 2024 Shanghai Masters. It was the fifth ATP Masters 1000 doubles title for Koolhof and ninth for Mektić. Koolhof and Mektić became the first unseeded pair to win the tournament since John Isner and Jack Sock in 2016.
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos were the defending champions, [1] but lost in the second round to Jamie Murray and John Peers.
Granollers and Zeballos retained the ATP No. 1 doubles ranking after Mate Pavić lost in the first round.

Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah won their second consecutive Grand Slam men's doubles title, defeating Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the final, 6–4, 7–5 to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2019 US Open. Cabal and Farah retained the ATP no. 1 doubles ranking. Mike Bryan, Łukasz Kubot and Nicolas Mahut were also in contention for the top ranking at the start of the tournament.
Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektić defeated Jürgen Melzer and Édouard Roger-Vasselin in the final, 6–2, 3–6, [10–5] to win the doubles tennis title at the 2020 ATP Finals. It was their first ATP Tour title together.
Ivan Dodig and Filip Polášek defeated the defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in the final, 6–3, 6–4 to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2021 Australian Open. With the win, Dodig and Polášek claimed their first Grand Slam title as a team. The victory earned Polášek his first major title, and made him the second Slovak to win one after Daniela Hantuchová.
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos defeated Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić in the final, 1–6, 6–3, [10–8], to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2021 Madrid Open. It was the third-seeded duo's third ATP Tour Masters 1000 doubles title together. Mektić and Pavić were contending to be the first doubles team in five years to win a season's first three Masters 1000 events.
Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić defeated Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in the final, 6–4, 7–6(7–4), to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2021 Italian Open. The second seeds did not drop a set en route to their third ATP Tour Masters 1000 victory together and their sixth title overall of the season. The all-Croatian pair also became the second doubles team to have reached the finals of the first four Masters 1000 tournaments in a season after the Bryan brothers, who last accomplished the feat in 2018. Ram and Salisbury were competing for their first title of the season and their fourth title together.
Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert defeated Alexander Bublik and Andrey Golubev in the final, 4–6, 7–6(7–1), 6–4 to win the men's doubles title at the 2021 French Open. It was their second French Open title and fifth major title together. They saved match points en route to the title, in the semifinals against Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah. Bublik and Golubev became the first male Kazakhstani players to contest a major final.
Nikola Mektić and Mate Pavić defeated Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the final, 6–4, 7–6(7–5), 2–6, 7–5 to win the gentlemen's doubles title at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. It was their eighth title of the season, with Mektić winning his maiden major doubles title and Pavić winning his third. They became the first Croatian pair to win the title.
Pablo Carreño Busta and Alex de Minaur were the defending champions, but Carreño Busta chose not to defend his title and de Minaur played alongside Cameron Norrie instead. They lost in the quarterfinals to Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.
John Peers and Filip Polášek defeated Aslan Karatsev and Andrey Rublev in the final, 6–3, 7–6(7–5) to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2021 Indian Wells Masters.
John Isner and Jack Sock defeated Santiago González and Édouard Roger-Vasselin in the final, 7–6(7–4), 6–3, to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2022 Indian Wells Masters. The victory earned Isner his second doubles title at Indian Wells, Sock his third, and the pair's second together overall at the tournament.
Hubert Hurkacz and John Isner defeated Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski in the final, 7–6(7–5), 6–4 to win the men's doubles title at the 2022 Miami Open. Isner completed the Sunshine Double, having won the title at Indian Wells alongside Jack Sock. He became the first player to achieve the Sunshine Double in men's doubles since Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in 2016.

It was their second Masters 1000 title as a pair, Bopanna's sixth, and Ebden's second overall. At the age of 44, Bopanna extended his own record as the oldest Masters finalist and champion in history. Bopanna also regained the ATP No. 1 doubles ranking after reaching the final; Dodig, Wesley Koolhof, Joe Salisbury and Horacio Zeballos were also in contention at the start of the tournament.
Sebastian Korda and Jordan Thompson defeated Ariel Behar and Adam Pavlásek in the final, 6–3, 7–6(9–7) to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2024 Madrid Open. It was the first ATP Masters 1000 doubles title for both players, Korda's first career ATP Tour doubles title and Thompson's sixth.
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos won the men's doubles title at the 2024 Italian Open, defeating Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavić in the final, 6–2, 6–2. It was the eighth ATP Masters 1000 doubles title for Granollers, and seventh for Zeballos. They did not drop a set on their way to their second Rome title as a pair, having won their first in 2020.
Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavić defeated Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the final, 7–5, 6–3 to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2024 French Open. It was Arévalo's second major men's doubles title and Pavić's fourth. Pavić completed the career Golden Slam in men's doubles with the win, having previously won the other three majors and the Olympic gold medal.
