On November 7, 2025, a Kamov Ka-226 helicopter carrying senior employees of Russian Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant crashed into an uninhabited building near Achi-Su, Dagestan, Russia, killing five people and injuring two others.
The aircraft involved in the accident was RA-19307, a Kamov Ka-226 owned by the Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant. The helicopter made its first flight in 2011. [1]
Seven people were on board, including employees from the plant and a flight mechanic. [2]
Video footage posted online shows the tail of the helicopter breaking during a hard landing on a beach. The pilot attempted to regain control of the helicopter, [3] before briefly going into water and taking off again. Witnesses said the helicopter caught fire. [4] It plunged and crashed shortly after into an unoccupied private house near the coast of the Caspian Sea. [5] The helicopter set an 80-square-meter fire after crashing, destroying the house. [6]
Initially, four people were killed and three others were injured, including two critically. A day after the crash, a person who was hospitalized succumbed to their injuries, bringing the death toll to five. [7] [ better source needed ] The victims were identified as four senior executives: deputy general director for construction and transport support Achalo Magomedov, chief engineer and chief power engineer Sergey Suslov, driver Islam Dzhabrailov, chief helicopter designer Sirazhutdin Saaduyev and the flight mechanic, Pyotr Surov. [8] [9] The Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant produces a wide range of military and dual-use products. The company is mainly known for the production of equipment for aviation. [4]
The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case for alleged violations of aviation safety regulations. Investigators are examining technical failure as a possible cause, though other factors are also under review. [10] Rosaviatsiya classified the crash as a disaster. [11]
