Temple University is a public state-related research university in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1884 by the Baptist minister Russell Conwell and his congregation at the Grace Baptist Church of Philadelphia, then called Baptist Temple. Today, Temple is the second-largest university in Pennsylvania by enrollment and awarded 9,128 degrees in the 2023-24 academic year. It has a worldwide alumni base of 378,012, with 352,175 alumni residing in the United States.

The Temple Owls football team represents Temple University in the sport of college football. The Temple Owls compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision as a member of the American Athletic Conference. They play their home games at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

The Florida Atlantic Owls men's basketball team represents Florida Atlantic University and competes in the American Athletic Conference of NCAA Division I college basketball. Their home games are played on the Abessinio Court in the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on the school's Boca Raton, Florida campus. The Owls have appeared in the NCAA tournament three times: in 2002, 2023, and 2024. The Owls joined Conference USA (C-USA) in 2013 as part of the early-2010s NCAA conference realignment. After not winning a single NCAA Tournament game coming into 2023, the Owls qualified for their first Final Four in program history by defeating the Kansas State Wildcats 79–76. After the 2022–23 season, FAU left C-USA for the American Athletic Conference.
The Temple Owls men's soccer program represents Temple University in all NCAA Division I men's college soccer competitions. Founded in 1926, the Owls compete in the American Athletic Conference. The Owls are coached by Brian Rowland, who was hired as the program's head coach in December 2017. Temple plays their home matches at Temple Owls Sports Complex, on the campus of Temple University.
Don Shields was an American college basketball player for the Temple Owls men's basketball team. He was also a professional basketball player for the Phillips 66ers, and later became a head coach for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane men's basketball team, and an NCAA referee.
Roderick Charles Carey is an American football coach and former player who last served as the offensive coordinator for the Indiana Hoosiers. He served as the head football coach at Northern Illinois University from 2012 to 2018 and Temple University from 2019 to 2021.
Matthew Kenneth Rhule is an American college football coach and former linebacker. He is the head football coach for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, a position he has held since 2023. He was also the head football coach for Temple University from 2013 to 2016, Baylor University from 2017 to 2019, and the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). Rhule played linebacker at Penn State from 1994 to 1997.
Marcus David Satterfield is an American football coach and former player. He is the tight ends coach at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln; he was previously the offensive coordinator for the 2023 season, and the first nine games of the 2024 season. Satterfield served as the head football coach at Tennessee Tech University from 2016 to 2017. He was the offensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee at Martin (2006–2008), the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (2009–2012), and Temple University (2013–2014). He was an assistant coach at Richmond during the 2004 season and Western Carolina in 2005. Satterfield played college football at East Tennessee State University.
Earnest J. Wilson III is an American football coach. He is the chief of staff for the Temple Owls, a position he has held since 2024. He was the head football coach at Minnesota North College – Vermilion, a junior college in Ely, Minnesota. Wilson was previously the head coach for the Arkansas Attack of Major League Football. He served as the head football coach at Savannah State University in Savannah, Georgia from 2013 to 2015, Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina from 2016 to 2017, and Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio for one season, in 2021.
The 2015 Temple Owls football team represented Temple University in the 2015 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Owls were led by third-year head coach Matt Rhule and played their home games at Lincoln Financial Field. They were members of the East Division of the American Athletic Conference. They finished the season 10–4, 7–1 in American Athletic play to finish as champions of the East Division. They represented the East Division in the American Athletic Championship Game where they lost to Houston. They were invited to the Boca Raton Bowl where they lost to Toledo.
The 2015–16 Temple Owls women's basketball team represented Temple University during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The season marked the third for the Owls as members of the American Athletic Conference. The Owls, led by eighth year head coach Tonya Cardoza, played their home games at McGonigle Hall with four games at the Liacouras Center. They finished the season 23–12, 13–5 in AAC play to finish in third place. They advanced to the semifinals of the American Athletic women's tournament, where they lost to South Florida. They were invited to the Women's National Invitation Tournament, where they defeated Drexel, Quinnipiac and Ohio in the first, second and third rounds before losing to Michigan in the quarterfinals.
Dave Patenaude is an American football coach. Patenaude spent the 2023 season as an Analyst at the University of Virginia. He was previously the offensive coordinator at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to coming to Georgia Tech, Patenaude was the offensive coordinator at Columbia University, Georgetown University, Coastal Carolina University, and Temple University, where he produced multiple All-Americans. Patenaude also served as the head football coach at University of New Haven for two seasons, from 2002 to 2003, before the program was temporarily discontinued.

They finished the season 12–19, 3–13 in AAC play to finish a tie for last place. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference women's tournament, where they lost to UCF.

The 2024 American Athletic Conference football season is the 33rd NCAA Division I FBS Football season of the American Athletic Conference, the 12th under its current name after the breakup of the former Big East Conference, and the 10th season of the College Football Playoff in place. The American is considered a member of the Group of Five (G5) together with Conference USA, the MAC, Mountain West Conference and the Sun Belt Conference. The conference will have 14 football members for the 2024–25 season.
